I put over $1000 into it and had it in mint condition and even had window stickers and original dealer things. It had a brand new sound system with a backup camera and all and I had reinforced the back hatch area with new carpet and boards so it could be used to tail gait and sleep in when we went camping. It had a full LED interior setup. The time came and it was parked and I decided to sell it because I could no longer afford to drive it and didn’t want it to set. The post listed literally everything about it and I had fixed all of its problems.

Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago a guy I went to school with shows up and gives me 600 cash. They test drove it and all and loved it. Said they were going to drive it and garage keep it. So I threw in my brand new car cover for it and whatever else I could find.

Later on to this week I get a text saying the engine is suddenly knocking and he wants his money back. I refused because I knew it couldn’t have been my doing as I serviced the car even while it was sitting and it barely saw the road other than weekend drives while I owned it. Then a day later I see him make a post about seeing him at the derby. My heart dropped. I messaged him and received these photos and a video of them revving the absolute shit out of the supposedly about to blow engine and no knock present. It literally broke me. Attatched are before and after. R.I.P. to the White Whale. I had big ambitions for it and loved that car and it’s terrible it ended this way. Sorry to hear this. After I have put a lot of work and time into fixing up an Escort, I like to drive them - or to find a good home for them. I have given extra Escortscars to relatives going to college, and gotten the cars back - pretty much intact. I am fixing up one now to give (or loan) to my daughter, for her commute to work.

Passing one of my Escorts on to someone who wouldnt take care of it - would make me pretty much sick.

Wow that guy sounds like a total ass, I feel the sentimental attachment, last year my 1992 Ranger failed the evap smog test from a bad filler neck, this truck was salvage and I put alot of time and money getting her roadworthy, I decided instead of selling it I was going to let california give me $1000 and send it to the junkyard to be crushed. I got a letter back from the BAR stating that they wouldn't accept the truck in the program for fees not being paid and being past 120 days from the last smog, so I bought a new filler neck, had a friend help me to put it in. paid the $300 dollar registration fee ( california RAPE) and she passed smog.

I ended up selling the truck to a older fellow, we took his dog along for the test drive and he and his dog really liked it. he bought it for $1000 and even though I would have made more money getting it crushed Iam happy to have saved her and sold it to him. plus he was leaving a toyota 3.0 with blownheadgaskets and going for a ford so I was excited there too.

It sounds like the guy wanted to return a $600 used car, and when you wouldn't, he deliberately wrecked it to be spiteful since he knew how much you cared about the car.
    Quite a jerk.

I know they're "just machines" but cars hold a special place in my heart over other machines. I could care less if some twit wanted to melt down his old gaming rig by removing the cooling system and overclocking it into a fireball. But stories like these...

Like on YouTube there are so many videos of stupid kids ruining old cars that run fine, just to be destructive. I think it's the wasted potential utility. There are families in hard times that would really benefit from an old car that runs. A little elbow grease could keep so many of these cars running fine.

I guess it just sickens me to see the naked ugliness of consumerism rearing its ugly head, destroying functional things simply because they aren't as "desirable".

Sorry to hear about your car, man. She looked like a beauty. I wish I could've taken her off your hands. I love my Tracer, but man, a wagon would've been awesome.

An update: The car has been through the derby 3 times and survived. I saw it the other day at another fair sitting in the parking lot. The guy I sold it to went to jail and they sold the car to a family so they could get bail money. They plan on using the interior pieces that weren’t broken for they’re own car as well as using the engine and transmission for another car.

Glad it's at least in better hands now and being used for something better than getting ruined in a stupid derby.

There was a "demo derby" track just a bicycle ride from where I grew up. I went a few time because one of my favorite neighbors would go to see her brother compete.
Aside from that the sport had no interest for me.
