I saw this listing for an electric Ford Escort on craigslist. I am in no way associated with the listing. Apparently, a corporation bought Ford Escorts without the engines and converted them. Something of an oddity I thought I would share. A wikipedia article on the car: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EVcort They sold for $58,000 new in 1992 dollars and the EPA sponsored a lot of the sales. The listing for $7500. https://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/d/nixa-1992-ev-ford-escort-wagon/6785510566.html
You had better be an electrical engineer if you buy it. The car was very complex as converted, and the seller has changed quite a bit of it since then, according to his ad. It seems like the same kind of story as the GM EV1 cars: "Because of liability issues, it was Soleq's policy that the cars should be scrapped upon completion of testing. Nevertheless, some were eventually sold to hobbyists and as of 2011 a few remain in use" The Wiki article says that four EXPs were converted to EVs as well!
Yes, it would be complex project as the owner has heavily changed it and I would take the 98% complete with a grain of salt. Sounds like it would cost $10,000's to hire someone to fully complete. The whole battery pack needs replacement.
Fwiw there's a 92ish ev Ford Ranger still running around my area and my landlord has two solectric branded Geo prisms sitting in his driveway. Both of them need batteries Sent from my SM-J737T1 using Tapatalk
