Yeah you read the title right. I'm building up a EXP with boost.
I have a rebuilt board over 1.9l HO long block. It came from a racing shop in TX. I was told its a smig under 2.0L.
I have a horde of parts and a little tinny 500cc super charger. Shooting for around 4psi of boost and 175-200hp.

Some things Id like to do for the SC build.
1: Dual exhaust, the stock header is a 4-2-1 header, so cutting off the last bit and welding pipes to it could work. Crazy idea, but hay why not? I have a few headers so I can always go back to a single setup.
2: Reground a cam for the boosted HO motor. Noting radical just more tuned for boost.
3: Adjustable cam pulley. I have the part so why not use it?
4: Roll bar. Jegs sells cages and roll bars for the EXP. Might as well get a roll bar to stiffen up the car.
5: Strut bars. Noting fanny, just a mild steel or aluminum pipe bolted to the shock towers.
    6: Paint the car.
7: LSD. Wile a euro LSD can be made to fit. I'll likely use a phantom grip or jutted SHO LSD.
    8: All new bushing.
9: Any steel bracket I can fab a replacement for will be refabbed in aluminum to lighten the car.
10: Swap the gray interior from the 87 to the 88.
11: EXP to normal escort grill swap. The stock escort gill is higher flowing wile the EXP grill is more restrictive air flow wise.
12: XR3TI ECU swap with interjects vam and stuff.
13: Replace everything with new parts were I can.
14:Remove all power options to lighten the car.
15: Put gray interior from the 87 in the 88.
16: Lighter aftermarket rad fan, the slim kind that mounts to the rad via zip ties or something.
17: Probably never going to happen, but I'd love to find a AWD tempo and convert the EXP to AWD.

Last night I started to rebuild the manual staring rack. Forgot to take photos, sorry.
I just started to primer it for paint and it started raining.
At lest one side of the rack is primered. Tonight I'll get it all painted up and post photos of it.

Sorry, my phone does not take good photos.

Here the rack with new paint.
I striped it down to bare mettle, used high temp rust sealing primer, and two cotes of high temp rust sealing back paint. The rack had a tick of rust in two spots and I did not want any coming back since I did not sand blast the rack.
The boots on the ends of the rack and the white clamps are original to the rack believe it or not. The small green zips ties will be replaced once I get some better matching black ones.

Not sure 100% what to call this part.It goes between the steering column and rack it had some surface rust and I had a little rust sealing paint left so I painted it too. It really did not need it, but what the heck I might was well paint it too. I did not have enough for a full coat and it shows, but the part goes under the dash. You will never see it and its not going to get messy or wet so its not like it will rust anymore or be an eye sore.

Over my dead body, No wait don't kill me for it haha.
The 88 getting the blower, no that's not getting sold any day soon
The 87 will be more stock street car, no super charger. And once I fix it I'll sell it. I want to see it back on the road.

OK I got the last of the parts last and the 87 exp last Saturday.
The 87 is not too bad being a 30 some year old car from ohio. But it will need a lot of work to make derivable again.
the rear of the card needs a lot of work. Mostly rust repair. The doors need some work noting big, It defiantly needs some brake and clutch work too. The motor seems to run grate however and its defiantly savable. Mostly just rust repair. I'll post photos of it tonight, but for now its on the back burner wile I finish my 88.

Tonight I hope to get the last of the surface rust cleaned up on the rear shock towers of the 88, then I'll start fabbing new wheel tubs for the 88. After that its some weld though rust sealing primer and welding the new tubs on.
Then I'll install the manual rack and drop the gas tank and finish stripping the underside of the car and sealing it all. Maybe then I'll install addco rear sway bar and rear bushings.

Ok I got the window loovers from the black 87 on to the red 88.
In my opinion they look a lot better on a red car. But thats just me.
Also I painted one of the manual rack mounts and striped and painted the outer frount shock tower braces.
Will post photos of them tomorrow if I have time.

I'm not really having time to get the real stuff done as I been sorting though all my parts.
But I finally found lift support struts that work for the red 88. Oddly the rear spoiler is waited, about 50lb and everything out there did not hold the hatch up at all.
The lift support struts on the black 87 were much stronger and worked grate, its spoiler is not had heavy ether so the struts I had on the 88 should work on the 87. Sadly the 87s spoiler is no where near as nice as the one on my 88 or Id swap them. The drop in weight would be nice. Maybe some day I'll find a nice earlier spoiler that is not as heavy but for now its the boat anchor.

Today I should get my OEM EXP mud flaps. Can't wait to put them on. They sould look far better then the over sized flaps that are on it now.

I put the manual rack in the other night, only to find none of the mounts I have fit the passenger side of the rack. I'll have to look though all my parts tonight for the right size mount.

sadly after taking a very close look over the black 87 it beyond saving. the frame rails are rusted out. Its Swiss cheese in some places. And that is on top of the rear strut tower being rusted to the point that one is half missing. I'll ether use it just for parts or get a jegs chassis for it.
Putting the 87 on a chassis would be cool because I would be able to do alot of things one could not do on a stock car.
But that project will have to wait until the red 88 is done.

Ok sorting through my parts last night I found the missing mount I needed for the string rack. Its badly rusted so I will have to clean it up and paint it.

If you have the space for it, it is a very good idea to save the parts car. It's impossible to know what you might need from it in the future.

I'd hate to use it for a parts car. EXPs are rare. I'm sure I could frame it. But to be honest Ill likely swap the interior and sell it.

I got the idea that the car was very rusty, and being a unibody car, would be quite a job to do all the rust repair, which is why I thought it was destined to be a parts car.
I do agree it would be great if it could be fixed up, and live again.

I don't think I've ever seen an EXP since I've been aware that they exist. Before about ten years ago when I got my Escort, I wasn't familiar with them.

Yeah it's a unibody car and yes it would be hard to repair. But getting a jegs chasy/frame for it would be a good idea for the car as the rust is in the parts that would be cut out for the frame kit.

Ok, just wanted to let everyone know I'm still working on the car. I have most of the car gutted and will be pulling out the dash and CFI motor soon.
I'll be going carb. I know I can make the EFI work with the super charger but putting a carb on the car will make it a lot lighter as I can gut most the wiring out of the car.
I also have plans to make the rear spoiler out of fiber glass, its about 40lb so making it out of fiber glass would be a good idea.

Not much. I been super busy at work and with other things. No heat in my garage+winter time and no help doesn’t help ether.

right now I’m focused on finding parts and getting rid of all the parts I have that I do not need for it.

I did just order the 7 spoke rs1600 wheels for it. Probably over payed for them at 400$ shipped, but they were not used so I cannot complain about that.
