hello.......1995 Green Lx, close to 200,000. Bought for 200 w, head off. Friend had got hot & tore it down for head gasket, but head was warped. 30 bucks to get the head milled, new head gasket & shim [milled head .020] intake gasket,battery & 100 bucks to same friend to put it back together. Went back together & runs good! Engine fan not coming on,but other than that all appears good. Surely thats a switch,just gotta find it. No ring grooves & head looked good. Auto trans shifts good. After taxes & inspection, I should be rollin in cool air for less than 6........Never thought I'd be an Escort fan, but here I am!! Thanks to all who help others. I will try to assist where possibe. When you had the head off, you did get the improved valves, didn't you? Otherwise you'r risking a dropped valve seat.

I had to replace a bad fan motor in my 91 LX. The front fan bearing had gone bad, letting the rotor grind against the frame of the motor. The car had 140,000 miles on it. Most of its life was in Arizona where i can presume the a.c system ran most of the year - and the fan runs when the a.c. is on.

nooooo i didnt do a valve job, wish i had. From what i understand we Escort owners have that worry quite a bit.loll {dropping valve seats} We got fan fixed today. It was a loose wire coming from a realy on the firewalll,drivers side. Got my tags & insurance today, hopefully now i can start getting some good miles out of it. thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum! I used to live in Tyler. I wonder if the relay is my problem as well. I can never see the fan on, now I dont know if she's just running cool or what. Thermo doesnt read hot, but then again, I've nothing past the cat so I wont ever hear it until I get my resonator on. Good luck with your scort
