Hey guys, I'm new here and have been using this website as a reference to fix my first vehicle to my name. I'm 26 and the father to a very beautiful 2 year old daughter and a husband to a 28 year old loving wife and also the now proud owner of a 19 year old 1.9L SEFI Escort LX Wagon. The Odo seems to be sketchy so I don't know the original miles. Anyway I thought I might share a sticky that I had on my stickies app on my laptop with you guys. It's basically the price list I spent on getting this to where I was supposed to get it when I spent the initial $800.00. I'm not a car mechanic but I did used to watch my dad work on his cars as a kid, just minor work though like change a tire and oil . Anyway here it is.
Total (Not including time spent researching, gas money, and money spent on new tools) - $3258.27
Friday May 4, 2012 10:10PM - Just installed lower ball joint
and going to get alignment and rotation tomorrow.."
Saturday got the alignment done and now it's just down to minor things mostly *knock on wood* . Although I feel that i will be needing new struts and springs in the near future after the drive to vegas! I also think the I may need to replace the P/S hoses due to the fact that even though i replaced the rack and there are no leaks, and flushing and bleeding the system--I still hear a little noise from the P/S pump and I see very little bubbles of oil on teh top hose coming form the P/S resevoir after cutting off that protector layer.
Things done: Zx2 wheel wrapped in new cooper rubber, k&N filter with cut airbox, hurst shifter and handle, new J&P performance cylinder head with upgraded valve seats and mild profile cam, panasonic deck with sony speakers, new headlights and inner bumper, purple valve cover
Future: Tracer or Zx2 nose swap, stock tach cluster swap, slotted rotors front with disk swap rear, interior color change, lowering car 2" all around, magnaflow exhaust
Wish list: 2.0 dohc turbo swap, stripped interior with sparco buckets, baja blue paint
WOW!!! :wideyed: I have been around autocrossing and the Honda tuning crowd (Honda and Ford lover here) for almost 30 years and I did NOT know people tuned Escort wagons! I am very impressed.
Mine I've had for two months, third owner, 182k mostly highway miles. 1.9L AT. Totally stock, and will probably stay that way just because I got her to go to work and carry the kayak on. Other than replacing the stock radio soon. She replaced an '88 Civic that decided to die on me. I nearly got an Accord but with theft and having to buy a rack for it, I turned my eyes to the wagons. I was really wanting a 97 up but this was a good deal. We've put about $1k into it and lots of elbow grease.
Hey all. I'm Rick from Greensboro, NC. I'm new to the forum and new to the Ford Escort world. I have tons of questions and glad I found this site! Here is a picture of my '99 wagon. I just installed some used 17" wheels I found on craigslist and modified my bike rack to fit on stock roof rack. I still don't understand this, but my bike is worth more than my car... lol
picked up a 98 Wagon SE, thought it had a bad clutch turns out the crankshaft was broken...not a problem last week took apart and today installed remand one...installing new clutch and then trans and back into car. It only has 113k on it and the crank broke just at the end of the 4 piston rod...nothing damaged a clean break in V shape.

I have a 97 Tracer wagon with 74,000 miles I got about a year ago from the original 74 year old owner. The car came with with a 4 inch think folder of records. It was special ordered: Boysenberry Blue, all power options, the trio wheels, cruise, ABS, 4 wheel disc, and a 5 speed stick. Bone stock other than 5% tint on all windows except front doors which are 35%, and some Kenwood and Kicker speakers in the stock locations from Crutchfield. I have a new set of General Altimax Arctic's on the 14" wheels, I plan a plus 2 or 3 summer wheel/tire upgrade in the spring, as well as installing a set of NOS fog lights.
