I was just curious what you all thought about these. The ones that look like third gen escorts. The roundy ones, like Tito had. (I guess they're third gen taurus's, I'm not sure.)

I'm borrowing a 1998 Merucry Sable from my grandma to drive across Missouri in and I've always thought these things were pieces of crap, but it's got some pickup. (More than I thought. :\) If it was black, had nicer wheels, maybe lowered a little, and a nice stereo I think it might be a nice 'cruising around town' car, as well as for driving on the highway.

So not so much for performance (though if anybody has numbers, bring 'em on) but more as an overall car, like, comfort, looks, reliability, etc, what do you guys think about these things? >.> No, I'm not really planning on buying one but my parents are and I'd probably end up driving it a lot on vacations and stuff.

I have a second gen SHO and I have to say it's realy a nice car as long as you take care of it, but my parents have a 2001 taurus, basicly the same as ur granparents sable and the thing has some of the crapiest build quality ever. We have needed a new alt., batt., we have a wobble at highways speeds which ford has tried to fix (i.e. brakes tires alienment) and they still can't get it right. There isn't even 30k on the car. Oh well just my .02.

Taurus

Ford had the Taurus, back in the 70's, in Europe... so, it actually has a long engineering history.
A neighbor has a 90 Wagon with 168K, no major replacements... expecting it to fail for the last 5 years, and the thing will not die.

Lots of things that you can do to it... check England.

Just like the Escorts. The tuning the Brits do on the CVH's is mad :D

Welp, update, we just put money down on a '95 Taurus wagon, mint condition aesthetically and it's TOTALLY loaded, power everything, even seats. Stereo doesn't have a CD player though, because it's a 95. :( It's ten years old and has 63,000 on it, but we found a handicap tag in the glove compartment so we're assuming it was owned by an old lady, unless it's a ploy by the dealer. Same place I got my Escort, coincidentally, so we think it oughta be good. It's got the 3.8L V6 in it, engine bay is really full. Only 140hp, but 215 ft lbs of torque. :p

Anyways, it's been on the lot for 2 months so they lowered the price to 4500 for us. My dad seemed kinda 'eh' about it but... He had more eyes for the '03 Thunderbird sitting next to it. My mom's gonna give me some money to 'update' the stereo system, so I get to tear it apart soon.
