Is it safe to accelerate for bout 40 miles hour on second gear? and like 50 on third?

I'm guessing you have a 5-speed.

40 in second is a bit high (can't remember the exact RPM this morning, but 30 is at 3000 RPM), but still below red line. Same for 50 in third.

It shouldn't hurt the car, just make more engine noise and use a bit more gas.

swapping a factory tach cluster in is really easy. you can use the same speedometer section so you don't have any mileage discrepancy.

Yeah. I read up on how to do that here and I have the thread on it bookmarked so that when I get the money and find the tach in a JY or such I can go ahead and make the switch. The only problem is that I am away at school so I don't know where a lot of things are around here. Do you know of anywhere online I could get the factory cluster w/ tach?

40mph in 2nd is fine. Iv had mine to 60 numerous times. same with 3rd, you can go all the way to 90 if you want to. :lol:
