I thought about something last night and am wondering if anyone else has done or thought about or have any info on. Puting a 2.0L Focus SVT crate engine in a 92-96 Escort or a zx2? Is the possiable and if so what problems have you ran in to? Thanks guys I will always love escorts. Let me know, [email protected]

I think you mean 91-96 Escort. and anything is possible. You'd have to get the whole front clip, engine, tranny, ecu, axles, etc from the SVT to put it into the 91-96 Escort, but I don't see why you couldn't put it into a ZX2 as the ZX2 uses the same dohc zetec as the base focus.

The SVT engine uses a dual mass flywheel and a multi-plate clutch, so I don't believe it will match up to the Zetec tranny in the ZX2. I don't think you can swap out the flywheel without having the crank machined. That's just speculation, though.

If you were to do it, you'd need to make sure that the 6 speed tranny can mount up, you'll need the shifter mechanism (since it's a cable shifter, unlike on any other scort/focus tranny) and you'll probably need to have custom axles made.

go to teamzx2.com one person with a s/r has done the swap, and the lower block segment beween the oil -an and block are diffretn, so there is a little welding and modding to do. but it has been done and can be done!

The focus and the zx2 do not use the same zetec, the focus doesn't have vct, the zx2 does and it also has a more aggressive cam.

Also the svt engine probally wont be worth it in the long run, you can easily get that amount of hp (if not more)out of a zx2 zetec with same amount you would have spent on the svt engine and all the pcm and extra's combined...
you can swap flywheel's onto the svtf engine but, from my hear say..I hear that the power is harder to achieve on the 5 spd then the 6 , I also hear the 6 spd isnt taking alot of power and there breaking easily.

if it has more aftermarket parts and possibilities than the engine he has now, than i'd say it would be worth it....Just alot of work. Just hope you know your way around an engine and a swap

The Zx2 Zetec and Zx3 Zetec really dont have much in common besides the name, different head's, cam's and bottom half, and motor mount's are different. The accesseries and braket are also not the same. The tranny's are not the same either, you can not swap between the two.

A Zx2 swap in a second gen is very do'able.
A Zx3, SVT or Contour Zetec swap would be a huge pain in the ass.

I really dont mean to flame anyone but why would you want too? The svt tranny has tall gearing and the final drive ratios are wide. The zx2 motor is a great motor to build. The zx2 has VCT on the exhaust side while the svt has it on the intake side. With the Gt just swap a GTX or GTR(if u can find one) or just turbo the one u have if u have. The svt has a honda style powerband not saying this is bad james.

my 2 cents

the difference in the zx2 and zx3:
windage tray on zx2 is for g5m,zx3 is for a mtx75
oil pan is different because the routing of the exhaust
zx2 had vct on exhaust, and high profile cam's giving it a broader PB
zx3 has no vct and milder cam's

thats the main difference, it is very possible to switch a mtx75 into a zx2, most don't do this because the cost isn't realitive to them or because the clearance and fab'ing of tranny mounts.

Myself has stuff with a built zx2 lower block, and stock zx2 g5m with a LSD and custom made axle's. Pretty much cake walk from there :)

Peace,
