im not trying to start a riot : :D

but why do i see all these escorts with the strut bars, fancy sway bars and what not?

my car steers find, you cant take a curve at 40 and not skid, on pavement

so what kind of benefit would this add to my driving experience?

and what is with people lowering their escorts? mine is stock and it gets scraped sometimes on gravel!

if your escort is scraping, then your suspension is worn out. On my 91EGT, there is 26" from ground to bottom of the fender on the front, and is no where near scraping on anything.. With Strut bars and upgraded sway bars you will have a lot less body roll. When I had my supra and had put a front strut bar on it, for the first 3-4 days, I was over steering on every corner before I finally got used to it. Basically, I needed to turn the wheel less to achieve the same results. Lowering the car yields the same results, but much more drastically, when you lower the car, you also lower the center of gravity, which, in turn helps you corner better.

it was only scraping on ruts, my tires are shot too.
what is a good tire size for the scort? i only have enough $$$ for one pair, if i do 205's would that make the car handle like crap it it had 185's in the back? im replacing the back tires

I think you should match the size. replace with the same size, unless you're replacing both front and rear.

Not a waste

I have noticed that I can keep more speed on some of our cloverleaf merging lanes.
No fuss or anything dramatic, just does it better!
I used to be hard on the throttle to get my speed back in order to merge, but now I just cruise on through with little drama.

As I was nearing 300,000 miles on some of the original parts and my steering rack was blown and needed replacing I just used better parts.

3rd gen front bar with some ES bushings all around, new shocks and went from 13" wimpy tires to some 185/50 15 Bridgestones on some NICE Enkei RSS wheels.

With a little shopping I figured that my cost was about $225 more than just taking it back to stock.

Worth every penny!

None of my handling upgrades have been a waste of money.

As Egnorant mentioned, the on/off ramp experience is improved dramatically and so is the handling on all the rural roads we have around here. I can take turns more confidently (especially with good sticky tires).

Since I had the Pony, it had the smallest available swaybars for the generation and the little 13" wheels, resulting in tons of roll (body roll and sidewall squash). Upgrading to the 15" tires made an improvement, as did the poly endlinks and EGT swaybar.

I own 2 2nd gens and there is a HUGE difference between my '91 with upgrades and my '96 which is completely stock. The '91 is just way more enjoyable to drive.

I have performance Struts, Springs, rear sway bar, front and rear strut bars, front and rear tie bars, as well as PU bushings. I definitely think it was worth the money, my car's handling is AMAZING compared to stock. Heck, the blue car's handling is amazing compared to the green car, that has performance struts, springs, rear sway bar, and rear bushings.

I did dropzone springs, HP tokico struts, sway bars and strut bars to my 91 pony. I could take corners like i was on rails. Best performance upgrade for the money.
That's probably the way I'll go too, but also take it a step further with new motor mounts, bushings, and use sprint springs instead, I'm lookin to go looowww..

After doing a search, I see DZ springs have the same drop as sprint springs.

Is that for a full set of four?

Ok, then for a good comparison, come ride in my car then go ride in your stock escort. then tell me the suspension mods were a waste of money. The difference is night and day, yours will feel like oil tanker in the ocean during a storm, and mine feels like a Porche for a lot less money and a lot more NVH. It depends on what your after I suppose, but after having my car like this, I prefer the car to be tight and solid even if the ride is rougher. My MX6 compared to my escort feels sloppy.

Sorry I plan on keeping her, but if you want your own, my advice is don't get an american women, get one that is from another country that has spent little time in this one and already has her green card.;) less drama, not so concerned with how much bread you got(except the actual loafs of bread we got) more family oriented and #1---treat her good and she will be loyal and good to you. just my personal opinion.

+1 - Merrican wimmens is spoilt....

Oh, and on the topic, suspension upgrades are definitely worth the cash, and if your struts/springs are shot, then the cost difference is minimal. Skip a few happy hours and you've got the scratch to make your driving experience much better than stock.... Every repair is an opportunity to upgrade.... :)
