Has anyone ever looked at an early model toyota supra vaf? I picked up an rx-7 vaf and then my friend showed me the vaf on his supra and it is exactly the same except larger. Would it be possible to pull the internals from our maf and swap the internals into that housing. It seems like that would increase air flow. Anyway has anyone seen these?

dear god, RX-7 is not vectored properly for escorts. I cannot imagine how badly your escort would be, taking in more air then the ECU can read..

Four bangers aren't built to simply injest tons of air in stock or NA form. You won't see any gains out of it if it works.
even the RX-7 VAF??? i've seen a how-to on how to install them, and how to tune them to work with the BP

you can use it, but you are going to be exceeding the BP ECU readability. the RX-7 takes in A LOT more air and the vectors (a/f reading) the escort ECU reads causes the a/f mix to run on the rich. Unless you are using a chip or stand alone system the stock (yes smaller) VAF will fulfill all your need on a stock N/A EGT.

Yeah I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm racing a 1st gen supra in a rally next weekend and I noticed how physically similar the VAFs are.

Something that few people know is that the EGT uses the same VAF as THE FESTIVA.

In all honesty, you're better off getting an independent fuel system (I forget what they're called, but I met a guy with a 1st gen supra who picked one up for abot 200 bucks) and then you can simply use manifold air pressure sensors instead. That was on his turbo application. Anyway... this has (almost) no restriction to flow, and it meters boost too. I'd save your money and just go that route.

what sirgan is saying is ideal. if you really need that much air you will be at the point where you should be running it anyways.

What the hell are you all talking about , mine work very well., I have seen no problem with my VAF. It is all good. I thought if the computer sees more air then it would send a lil more fuel,. but a apexi AFC works great also.

Really, I've seen alot of posts about the rx-7 vaf on the 1.8. Iwas under the impression it was a benefit. anyone else?

It will work and you do see gains. because it measures the air differently. therefore putting more fuel into the cyl. but stock N/A the engine can only pull in so much air, and with a stock MAF and CAI you will not surpass that intake. unless you have headwork w/ cam or some sort of forced induction. These motors are all about the tune, if you have a lot of mods and ability to tune an RX7 VAF is a good alternative to purchasing an aftermarket one.

im constantly above 5 k

also ive advanced timing and ive been using the high octane fuel i know alittle more air wont hurt it

oh and ya i love to give it and hear my car open up, plus it makes passing safer, plus its mostly for racing purposes, so when im below 5k and im not racing i dont give a crap about a little less bottom end because im not using it

I'm at 5k many times a day. Mine stops building power around 6.5k, so I usually shift at 6 or 7. Once I get my new internals and Ferrea valvetrain I wouldn't be surprised if it builds to 8k. I'm using the RX-7 w/K&N, advance timing and a pretty free flowing exhaust and I noticed the difference when I autox.
