I just got my VAF (Apexi) hooked up on my E-gt (1993) , Car runs very good, all the power is there and some more (MUUUHHHAAHHAH), the only problem is, Does anybody know the color or were you hook up the throttle wire off the PCM for the VAF? The reason is because, when we had it hooked up to the Throttle out put, it would not let me rev above 2500RPM's so we unhooked it and it ran like a striped ape. Does anyone have one of theses hooked up on there escort. ahhh it makes the RX-7 VAF scream. I have the green ford books and the chiltons man's and two brain could not figure out only this one wire. I would thank you if you could help. Just neee to know which wiore it is off the PCM so i can get the throttle reading because it reads as it is full throttle.

with the Key in the ON position the throttle works but with the Car running in stays a 100%.

Is your car a 5 speed? if so the tps doesnt really work like a regular tps. It just has a switch for idle and wide open throttle. It doesnt see anything in between.

you could use a map sensor instead of a tps....i set mine up like that and it worked pretty well.

and he suggested using a MAP, P not F. it measures pressure instead of air flow.

i dont know if you can do this, but the automatic equipped cars have the variable TPS.. it may be able to be swapped over and use the extra wire for output to the SAFC.

wait, what's the diff, between a VAF and an MAF.... and what are the usual gains by doin the swap???
Vain Air Flow
Mass Air Flow

and you can't swap.
Correction, Vane. (The spelling police strike again!)
A Vane airflow meter, uses two thin elements, which it heats up to detect how much air is flowing through it. The mass airflow does something much different. I refer you to http://www.howstuffworks.com to find your answer.

right spelling.....wrong function. A vane uses a flapper door which opens more as more air is coming though. A maf uses the two heated elements.

VAF = vane air flow
MAF = mass air flow

These are two differant kinds of meters that read the air comming in to the engine. The computer will correct for fuel enrichment off these meters.

TPS = throtle position senser

On a 5 speed it will tell the computer pretty much if you are not giving it gas some what giving it gas or just plain flooring it.

On an Auto it serves 2 functions. First it is a more accuate senser on the auto when it tells the computer if you are getting on the gas or not. Second it also helps control shifting for the tranny.

from what i know it is almost a direct bolt on swap. With the exception of wires, and as for locating one, go to a U Pull It, or any junkyard, and just pull one, just dont know what years someone else will have to tell you or you will have to s e a r c h
