I´m looking to buy a Sunpro tach for my ´89 LX CFI. I saw a 3 3/8" tach for around $75(CAN) but I was wondering where exactly this thing would cut into the ignition system??
Has anyone out there installed an aftermarket tach on an ´89 or 1st Gen escort?? If so, your help would be appreciated.

Tachs usually have 3-4 wires. 3 wire tach are usually hooked up red + black - while or green - coil wire. If it has 4 wires the 4th wire is for th light inside and is hooked to a switched + for your head light switch But to answer your main question it is hooked into the ignition via the - coil wire, and it gets its siglal every time the coil is grounded.
