Stupid Freakin Seatbelt

alright, I get into my car to go home and get some money and the seatbelt works fine, moves forward and then back. When I get into my car at my house the seatbelt won´t move forward, so I turned the key to start and back, and then it did move. I turned the car back on and it moved back. I get out of my car to go into BP and it works fine, when I went to get back into the car it wouldn´t go back forward so i slammed the door, opened it, nothing...slammed it, opened it, nothing. GRR I think the switch is going bad, or could it be the motor itself? I know the wiring is under the drivers seat for the belts.
Someone said they got the seatbelt motor from a j/y for real cheap. who was that? I think I´m just going to replace them fairly soon because this is really really pissing me off.

My Escort has done this before a few times. It hasnt done it
in a long time though. Just wait and see how they keep working
for a few. ;-)
If it always comes back whenever you start the car (ie, it never gets stuck forward) then you can bet it´s the switch. Closing the door and turning the ignition should force the switch so that the seatbelt comes back, but if the lever is too gunked up it won´t return to the forward position all the time.

If it´s refusing to move in both direction it´s probably the motors/tracks/cables.
I just ripped my motor and track out yesterday.. it got stuck in the middle of the door and the motor still tries to move it.. makes a god aweful noise.
yes, the wiring goes under the seat.. but at least for me the motor was in the wall behind the front door, i have a 2 door though.

I am prolly just gonna opt for racing harnesses.. they are only about 50-70 bucks.. and since i live only a mile from summit racing´s warehouse in tallmadge ohio.. it wont be too hard to find quality ones..
Ohhhh you luck Bastard. I would Love to live right next to a Summit wearhouse. I would be in there everyday getting stuff for my cars. Hell I´d probably be in there every day begging them to give me a job.
yea.. they it rocks.. they just built a bigger addition too.. for sport compact, we should be seeing more of that from them now. i tried to get a job there but they had a job fair that i missed where they got all the people that they could ever possibly need..
to be totally honest, when i was 10 y.o. (20 now) they baught my parents and my grandmothers houses to build that warehouse..
yup my drivers side seat belt does it constantly. one day it´s fine, the next (like today) it isn´t. I´m gonna be tearing a motor out of a wrecked escort soon, hopefully that same car will have power windows and locks as well...that way I can get it all at once. :-]

your motor and shit are fine... the LATCH that latched the door onto the gold colred bar is actually also a switch for the seatbelts. It´s normal for this to get gunked up and so stop opening back up by itself, so the seatbelts will get stuck in the rearward position.

You can take the whole latch assembly out and replace it, or use some type of cleaning compound and lube it up and it should work like a charm again.
yeh mine does it..but its real annoying..it will retract then like the seatbelt light will be on and then the motor will pull it down and it will release like back and forth for a while then hit a bump and it quits....where is the latch again?? i´m stupid w/ car electronics, but if u need a head rebuilt i can do that.
mine acted funny for about 6 months then quit altogether for awhile then started pushing out the cable that runs it...I finally had enough and cut the cable since it was damaged and unplugged the motor...I manually put it into the back position and right now run just the lap belt...till I can get my harnesses....btw the seatbelt light stays on...but I pulled the bulb...
I have a 92 GT. Mine got stuck for good one day and went into convulsions. Look in your owners manual it will tell you how to manually turn it by hand to get it in the back position. I have a panel on the drivers side backseat area. After that I unhooked the wire there. So now it is permanently in the back position. You should have gotten a tool with your manual. I think it´s called allen wrench. Use that to crank it back.
Well it´s been fixing itself as of late. I was slamming my door out of anger and I shouldn´t have been, if i just held on a second it´d move forward. My car has been through 2 previous owners that didn´t take care of it, so I doubt that the allen key/wrench is still with the owners manual.
There easy to get if you don´t have it. It´s like hexagon shaped. They even have drill bits that would work too.
I know I have a pretty large set of hex keys. come in very handy sometimes. ;-)

I would have to remove my door panel to get to the latch, correct? And the cleaning compund is called "tuner cleaner" and it's used to clean electrical contacts (orogionally intended for mechanical tuners in TV's).
