Hey, I´ve noticed on my ´91 LX when I turn the steering wheel all the way to to left or to the right and I am still rolling (going forwards or backwards) I hear a kind of high pitched squealing noise and the car acts really bad, almost like it is going to die or something. Anyone else here have a similar "disorder"? And while I´m talking about my car´s problems, I´ve noticed that in the early mornings the speedometer will, when the car is first started and just gets going that speeds over 30 MPH will cause the needle to move in 1/2 in. sways up and down all while making a buzzing noise.. However in the afternoon (i guess it´s warmer then) there is no such occurence... Anyone else have this kind of prob? How do I fix these things if they are fixable?

Oh, and the Ford Lord blessed me with the luxurious 85 mph max speedo, which is ok, but not good enough for me. (I have read elsewhere on the forums of others who have the 85 mph speedometer and I know they share my pain) I´ve also read around the forums of others who have had vibration problems while at idle in gear at like a stoplight ect, and mine seems to be doing the same, nice and smooth while driving, and a constant vibration in the steering wheel from the engine at a stop. I don´t think making the hood less loose has much to do with this tho, and mine doesn´t seem that loose to me (I don´t hear any chattering ect. from it). Today I took off my noise silencer and I must say I do like the noise it makes now, not to mention the performance gains at highway speeds, makes passing those slow people a lil easier. Im gonna have to make a cool air intake tube for it tho, cause I know hot air isn´t good for performance, but the temps around here in the mornings are like 25 - 32 Farenheit so it should be ok for now.

Shiz, if your stopped completely and you turn the wheel and hear a buzzing, its more then likely the strain on your power steering pump. I would say start by having the system flushed then adding new fluid. Have the rack and the pump checked. .....Or just ditch it because PS is just there sucking power off the motor

my 91 lx does the same thing whene i turn the wheel all the way. its the power sterring, its a common noise.your not realy supose to turn the wheel all the way, it will make the pump go out faster.
my stering wheel vibrates like that too.
kinda like a dog wagging its tail, it just want to go run.

heh, how would I just "ditch" the power steering altogether? It does feel better though now that I know I´m not the only one with the prob. The only reason I have to turn the wheel all the way to the left or right is because of my parking spot´s posistion. I guess I´ll have to find some way to quit steering so hard.

Uh guys its really isn´t that good of and idea to turn the wheel and hold it on the locks either left or right in a car with power steering. the pump does not like it and yes it will go bad. turn the wheels of any car to the max and hold it there and you will hear the pump whine like crazy. read the owners manual and they tell you that this is not something you want to do.

They may not recommend it but sometimes it´s necessary. I try not to lock it as much as possible because the piece of plastic that keeps road grime out of my engine compartment isn´t all the way on there, and the right front tire when turned all the way in will scrape it.
Cars are meant to be turned in all the way from time to time though...thats why you see "turning circle, curb-to-curb" on new car specs. They´re bragging on how tight a circle the car can turn. For example: the new Corvette Z06 turns in 42.3 ft curb-to-curb, but the diameter is 43.3 ft, and has a turning lock-to-lock ratio of 2.46 turns of the wheel. I ...think...but I´m not sure, that the 2nd gen EGTs have somewhere around 2 1/2, to 3 turns, lock-to-lock.

Hey, if I were to find a GT front grill cover, could I put it on my LX? I like the little slits in it cause it rids of the plainness of the original one, plus mine is almost falling off right now. I think I might have to find some new mounts for that problem tho, cause I think the part where the cover snaps in is broken on the majority of the holes, but I might not remember so well.

That power steering prob where it stresses the motor and power steering pump is just on the Escorts, its on all cars! You just pay attention to it more on the scorts because we aren´t blessed with say 180HP so the motor is trying harder. And yes you can blow a PS pump by holding the wheel to the lock.
