Just put a new head on my fathers 97 SPI 2.0. Runs great but the temp guage is pegged(way past the red) and the tach doesn't work. I disconnected sending unit and the temp guage drops back a bit (to about 3/4 of the way up on the scale). Checked all the wires for a pinched or grounded wire and all looked ok. Just wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem. It wasn't this way prior to head install. TIA

probably have the two coolant sensors swapped, one is for the gauge and one is for the computer.

Thanks for the quick reply but I checked them. The connectors are slightly different. The car runs great otherwise. No check engine light just the wierd guage problem.

thx

Just an FYI follow up. I put a new coolant temp sensor(the one for the guage, not the PCM) and it cured all problems. Thanks to those who gave input.

YEP, I didn't try replacing the sensor sooner because I figured it couldn't be the cause of ALL the problems. Go figure.
