my friend got a jensen dvd 7" flip up deck, got the harness wire that allows you to connect the deck, to the wires that are already under the dash, it starts up just fine, but no sound. I'm thinking its got an amp prob. some where, but its a 91, so i'm not too sure..

its also got the preium sound emblem on the passenger side grill, but not on the driver side?

im not sure they put the stock amp in the 91s.. might have just been a cd player head unit and nicer speakrs back then...

what id do in this case... have a small test speaker handy so you can connect it to the speaker outputs on the head unit... see if there is anything coming out.. if its got good contact to the speaker wires.. should have audio.

my 91 EGT had the "premium sound". the emblem is only on the passenger side door also. the amp is located within the center console, directly below where the deck goes. if you take the console out so you can get at it, you'll see that you can simply bypass the amp by unplugging it and plugging straight into the harness that was plugged into the back of the amp.

2 side screws on that console and 2 right behind the shifter on the ebrake compartment. then just pull the ebrake compartment up and pull the console out. very simple

There is often a simple explanation to many of lifes problems...
The "Premium Sound" tabs just pop on/off and b/c of the wear/tear on the DS, they come off.

Just disconnect the amp, it's crap, the wiring should then plug right in. Problem is that the amp system uses a common ground for all the speakers and you'll need to rewire a few things, but this isn't a big deal, should be taken care of with the wire harness swap into the new HU.

    Good luck, Bill.
