Alright so my steering wheel in my escort isnt straight. its crooked to the right a little, and whenever i make it straight i go to the left. now i would think that Ford put the steering wheel on wrong or something but when i let go of the wheel it drifts toward the centerline. If i got an alignment, would my steering wheel be straight again? or is that something that can be fixed in a different way?

i took mine in for an alignment at a couple places and nobody fixed the problem but me. what i did was straghten the wheels, take the wheels off to get to the tie rods, seperate the tie rods from the steering knuckle, straghten out the steering wheel, adjust the tie rods till they slide into the knuckle and tighten everything up. i would recommend to get an alignment done after this so they can straghten the toe setting.

also if u have some free play, keep an eye on the steering rack while u have someone move the steering wheel. if it moves, ur steering rack mounts needs to be tightened.

I replaced my inner tie rod ends and caused my steering wheel to be crooked. The alignment shop brought everything back into spec including the steering wheel.
Moral: it depends on where you take it
