I'm 90% sure that you legally can, but you have to notify your insurance company.....but most companies won't insure a car that had its airbags removed.

    I thought it was illegal.

I think when we did Johnscorts, he just told the MTO that someone rear ended him in the parking lot and it deployed, therefore no more airbag.

Then he sold the airbag to me

Like I said 90% sure. I could be wrong though. Its best just to call the MTO and ask them.

Or just go ahead and do it, and as long as you're not acting like an idiot I'm sure you'll be fine. Its almost like the shaved door handle thing. Some will hassle you, some won't. They just hope that you pay it and don't show up to court.

I would just say to tell them it deployed. I know that you can remove the passenger side one without any problems though!

By law you do NOT need an airbag to pass a safety.

There are MTO Airbag exemption forms that you can get. But. You have to leave the SRS (air bag light) lit on the Dash if you are reselling the car.

As for insurance...that one is the touchy subject. Some look for ANY reason to drop you. Others don't care.

I would call up your insurance office and pose as someone else to find out the information. Like as if you were a prospective customer asking. Just so that your broker doesn't "look into you"

k thanks ... ill have to look into it a bit... its just an idea so it not a forsure yet..... i wish i still had my 92 gt...it had no airbags in it so there for no problems with having to remove one.... also i like the feel of the 91-93 steering wheels before the airbags were introduced to our cars.

You will need to swap out the steering column probably. The earlier ones had the ring for the horn buttom...but the laters had a mazzive assemble back there for the air bag contacts.

Or just put a horn button on the dash somewhere. up to you.

I know I would swap the whole column. but that's just me

Sorry for the rebirth thread but I was thinking about doing it to but some guys told me its not legal.

But I'm trying to find a way for doing it and being legal. Its funny because I'm not legal since I own the car(2002) because the air bag was poped out and we never put it back...lol

The problem...I live in Quebec and road law sucks here...lol

Should I call my insurance for detail...or forget that mod?

I wouldn't tell your insurance company. If you resell the car, put another one in. Takes a few minutes and there's lots of them out there.

Ok...but what should I do with my racing steering idea? I know, for the legal thing, there would be no change since I never been legal on this. But cops cant realy see it cause I have the stock steering.

My point is that with a racing steering, at the first look they will know that I'm illegal.

Racing steering wheel you mean? My brother's had one on for a few years and never had any problems about that from cops (and has been pulled over numerous times). His car has/had airbags too.
Cops around here are anal about this stuff too.
