I've got a 99 ZX2 racecar. It's a got an entirely plastic bumper support in front. Just sold my 92, so I cant confirm this, but my bet is that the 91-96 had a steel bumper reinforcement. Me thinks this would hold up better in a racing environment. Might need some trimming to work with the ZX2 cover, but still oughta be in improvement. Might hide a bar behind it while I'm at it. ;)

Can anyone confirm if its steel or not on the older body style?

I also note that the aftermarket replacements for the ZX2 are listed as steel, tho this certainly could be wrong

Older ones are plastic, too. :(

But you can add a steel bumper from a different brand car. It does take welding and fab skills, though. (cutting sections of the bumper out if it's too wide, or adding sections if it's to short.) And you may have trouble with the cover. My grandpa welded on a steel bumper to his gt. He doesn't run a cover over it, so you can see what it looks like. His is off a chevy beretta. [IMG]

i used to race a 2001 zx2 and i used the plastic bumper but its a good idea to run reforcement tubes across the front frame rails i had alot of rough incendent at it held up and didnt let the frames get bent i had to replace one bumper but it was 20 bucks at the scap yard and the cover to them zx2's are strong they hold up pretty good
