Went to start the Escort today and all I got was clicking. Checked the battery terminal to make sure they were both on tightly and they were snug. Had the battery checked a few months ago and it was still in good shape. So, I'm not sure if it's the starter or the alternator? And, if it's the Starter, where is it located on the Escort?

If the car has been sitting around and not ran much lately the battery may just be weak and need a charging. Usually when you get the clicking from the solenoid it is either a dirty/loose connection or a low battery. Did you remove the terminals and clean them and the battery posts? You should also check the grounding point and the connection at the starter to make sure they are both tight and clean.

I drove it just Saturday evening and went to start it last night, approx. 24 hours later or so. (It has done this once before, maybe 2 weeks ago or so, but after letting it sit for an hour or so, it started right up) All the lights still turn on in the gauges like normal, as well as the CD player and radar detector; they don't even dim after leaving the key in the "On" position for a few minutes. I will re-check the connections on the battery and see if maybe there are just some big pieces of debris that might be causing a bad connection. Haven't jumped it yet but I will if, after cleaning the connection, it has no change.

Replaced battery, the negative connector and the negative ground wire as well, and its back up and running. The negative connector had become loose and the corrosion had started to take its tole. Now I'm hoping the reset will recognize the new sensors I installed and the idle will get back to how it should be. Thanks for the help!
