Vehicle-parts maker in Pine Bluff to close after 40 years

Sparks said that what happened to Stant is somewhat typical.

"A company acquires a business, divides it up, does whatever is necessary to make a profit," he said, "which is a sad thing for us, but that's the reality of business. We've just not been able to do anything, and they've been a good employer for years."

Stant's brand, starting in February 2020, was to be folded into that of the MotoRad company, a manufacturer that makes some of the same parts that Stant makes, according to one online reference..

Which means they shut down the Stant factory and will either sell crappy Motorad thermostats in a Stant Box or do away with the Stant brand completely. Some people are already reporting seeing crappy Motorad thermostats in some OE chains of supply (Chrysler spotted already). So we need to find out if Motorcraft still makes their own and if so just use those in all your vehicles. Store brands are already or will be Motorad junk. Still researching FVP and Gates.

My best guess is that Motorcraft is a rebadged Stant (possibly a rebadged SuperStant), but it's just a guess.
That is nothing new, private label products are all the rage. Sometimes the same item is sold under dozens if not 100s of names. The water is further muddied by some brands such as motorcraft paying more for higher quality stuff even tho its the same item.

I work for an industrial hose supplier. We can order hose from a major manufacturer and have them do a private label. We do this for at least 2 private label brands, same exact hose and specs just a different name on it.

It's really tough to know what products are good nowadays. "Brands" don't mean so much because as has been said, any parts supplier can have its brand stamped on the same crappy offshore parts.

Or it could be stamped on good quality parts, but how are we to know? A part may have been made in the US last year and be of good quality, but when we reorder it this week it could be a lousy Chinese piece.

prety much everyone sells motorad. gates, murray,.. its all the same now. I actually just ordered 20 rad caps off amazon for 3$ a piece because even with my commercial accounts the parts stores want 8-12$ a piece for them. honestly most of this stuff is all chinese anyway. gates for example, moog. none of them are 'premium' brands anymore. they all sold out
