They have for years and years. not the first or the last time I'm sure of it that they will poke at me. I kinda have made a stink over them dropping it from the line and even had a few people inside who were poking at people too.

All ford has to do is listen to the community in general (well maybe not that pesky zx2 crowd :p j/k) in general those of us that have been around long enough know exactly what we want in a 4cyl shitbox.

All they have to do is make the same car with better engine mounts, DOHC, a little more power (140-150 horse), BETTER GOD DANG HEADLIGHTS, and a ccrm that wont fail the AC. Is that so hard? Common Ford... You can even use the same body. Oh one more thing, can you make the darn thing so it wont shake your fillings out of your teeth at idol?

I really hope they read this. No point in reinventing the wheel. Just a solid point A to B car. @13-15K new.
    Get on it.

I'd be cool with the same HP and torque if it meant 45mpg. 110/125 is quick enough for this class, IMHO.

With auto and air... I'd be OK with this... If there going to keep it high 30's, at least be able to be foing 65 MPH behind a semi and have enough juice to get around his ass in less time than it takes to read The Odyssey... (or hear it on tape...cuz were driving and all that...)

Haha a little less reluctance to downshift would probably suffice. These things dang near REFUSE sometimes.

Whats worse there Driver... A cage that pulls out in front of you and parks, a cage that passes you and goes on its merry way, a cage that trails you (at a safe distance), or a cage that keeps trying relentlessly to get around you repeatedly with little to no success.

I'm kidding. I drove for 20 years, now I spot in a yard. But it just amazes me the level of stupidity of the newer truck drivers. You see things in a yard you would NEVER see on the road.

I remember when trucking was an actual 'profession', > miles and <time =money. Now it's just a job. I am not sure if a new driver could keep 2 logs if he tried (satellites and all that). But I digress, I have a million + miles on the road for a living driving lab specimens around the State... All in Florida, mostly all in Escorts. Yeah, I have seen some stupid stuff. I haven't done it in a while, but I'll probably get back into it within a year or so... I might have to get a GoPro so I can post vid of the stupid stuff I see instead of describing it.

I think I have about 1.7 million roughly.

Driving used to be fun. You can still do 2 logbooks (not legally of course). Most companies have the electronics, but not some of the small owner operators. 20 years ago I had 3, I even transplanted pages lol. I have the holy grail of records. I have a BLANK CSA score. If you're inspected and come out clean you have a 0 CSA score. Having a blank score means I haven't even been inspected since CSA was put in place. (2008?).

But the rules have been dumbed down so the stupid people can drive. this has driven down wages. I make now the same rate per hour as I did in 2008. And it's all straight time- no ot. There's a federal exemption for certain jobs that exempts having to pay ot. That's why I'm trying to get out of driving and go into safety. I can still make a living from my CDL experience and not have to drive.

US Xpress FTW. Those drivers are especially stupid...and there's a terminal down the road. They keep ripping out the guardrail and US Xpress has to keep replacing it. They'll literally have a brand new guardrail in less than a week before it gets smashed up. And I mean FLATTENED.

Ford and the other American auto companies need to focus on Electric/Hybrid technology. Just my opinion. The Escort would be the perfect low-cost, efficient, economy vehicle...isn't that what it was known for anyway?

wHEN I first moved tot his town, there was a guy converting Escorts and Cavaliers to electric. The entire conversion cost 3K, in 1990. Some of those cars are still arounf town.

Yeah, I was following the development of a hybrid-electric kit that the University of Middle Tennessee was in the process of testing. The system was a ready-to-install kit with a base cost of under $3,000. They even had their prototype installed an a 1994 Honda Accord Wagon...which is a very similar platform to my 1993 Escort Wagon. Everything seemed to be going very well...until they "acquired a global partnership to further enhance the technology and academic experience." Needless to say...it has been a few years and still no release or updates. Apparently further testing and development has been put in the hands of 2 foreign Universities, whom have not responded to my e-mails and messages. Below is link where Wired covered the system in an article:

Agreed, but it is not going to happen with big oil running the show. The US needs to exploit more renewable energy sources and build the infrastructure before electric, fuel cell, or even alternative fuels(ethonal, ect) even become feasible. Add on top of that big oil trying to make a buck and these type of vehicles don't get developed or used. Until the consumers(we the people) start to invest in renewable resources and not oil(as we do on a daily; buying gas, ect.) these vehicles will not be developed. Companies only have interest in things that make money, unfortunately the only things that make money are things that burn oil. Why? because oil is relativity cheap or convenient to use.

I agree, which is why I will never buy anything other than a Hybrid/Electric vehicle again. I was going to purchase the 2014 Nissan Leaf which is 100% Electric, but it's range did not work for my driving distance. When the range of the Nissan Leaf or another 100% Electric vehicle breaches the 200 mile rang for under $30,000... I will make my purchase.

On a similar note- I am in the process of implementing solar power at my home, which will more than cover 100% of my electric expense which means I will have no electric bill. The solar system will be 100% profit after about 8 years or sooner depending upon my electric usage. I also converted 100% of my home/garage lighting to LED technology which is highly efficient, an improvement of about 91.7% over my old incandescent/Edison style lighting. The technology has greatly improved in the last few years. For example, the bulbs I have are expected to last about 25 years, emit nearly zero heat, and are dimmable. I am also installing all energy-star electric appliances, and a stand-by generator to power the entire house if needed.

    Total thread hijack approaching...

I live in Florida. My light bill is @500/mo. At least half of that is AC (literally, that thing runs 20 hours of the day, even in winter, at this exact time 3:44AM, it is 81 deg outside.). I want to get solar, just to run the AC, ceiling fans, and one outlet per room, where a LED lamp will be used in the day, then switch to conventional in the evening. I cant afford the entire set up at one time, so I want to 'go half' and see how that works. (Home is 7 years old, lots of effective insulation, 3000 sq ft, energy efficient appliances, 5 small kids, dog, doors and fridge open all the time, washer and dryer constantly running, no leaky door or window seals...)

The last time I checked on it, the panels were VERY expensive and had something like a 20 minute warrantee (well, it was longer than 20 min, but not long enough to justify the 'payback').

If things have changed;; shoot me a message if your aware of anything that would suit my needs.

    Thanks
