Does anyone know if coilovers from say a 95 escort will fit a 2000 zx2.. Im pretty sure the suspensions are the same but I have to be sure of it...

yep!

they are the same! just the top of the zx2 stuts are a little bigger! strut wise, but springs are the same!

Sweet because I plan on purchasing a 2000 zx2 quite shortly and why should I go and spend $400 on a set of ground control coilovers when I can get R-1's for like $80...

The bottom sleeve should be ok....

The top hat will probably need to be drilled out a tad bigger for the 3rd gen's larger strut rod.

I do know of ZX2ners that have used the Escort Coilovers and have had a problem. :? but I don't think it was anything major

OMG, dude, you have got to be kidding me.

The difference between R1 and GC is NIGHT and DAY. Going out and spending the least amount of money you can is a BAD move (a riceboy move, actually), because you'll get what you pay for in the end...do yourself a favour and LEARN about the stuff you want to buy before you do it.

Being a longtime ZX2 owner, I speak from experience...your best bet is to run springs and struts, like Eibach/Tokico...that is the most durable setup...you won't be replacing struts every 1000 miles or so like you would with cheap-ass coilovers like the ones you mentioned. The ZX2 does not currently have (or will probably ever have) an adjustable strut available either (recommended for coilover use).

I have already planned on getting tokico struts all around... and I really must disagree with your hate for the R-1 spring.. I have installed these springs on both a cavy and a neon for my friends and they seem to me to be just as good quality as any others I have seen.. neither of the two have had any problems with the springs and the only reason I say that they cost so little is because I they can be easily found on e-bay...

well, you still get what you pay for, bottom line. $80 coilovers are just that...$80 coilovers. I personally wouldn't entrust my safety with $80 parts.

unfortunately I did wait to long and the guy had sold them.. If it wasnt for work I would have probably had them... damn job.
