Question for everyone who has seen a third gen Escort LX Sport. You know the spoiler on the back? I'm considering whether or not to take it off. I think it looks kind of ugly, but at the same time I like it on, because I don't like the roundiness of the ones without spoilers. I'm torn. If I could afford a rice wing I would put it on; maybe that would make it less roundy and give it a little bit more definition.

Anyways, my question is more of a poll: Who likes the stock spoilers on third generation Escort LX and SE sports? If you don't like them, feel free to post that too. I'm trying to see what other people think, maybe to help me come to some sort of decision.

I say leave the factory one for now. I am not a fan of the "rice" spoilers, but I know it can look good on some cars. However, I agree with majormastermind about waiting until you have a body kit and some appropriate styling. Also, I don't like the ones that are really tall; taller than the roof of the car. When they are this big they just make the car look like a "tool." (And, in SOME cases, the driver too.) Bottom line, make sure the wheels and body styling are in order before you get a spoiler. I think the wheels are most important to making a good looking car. I saw a Honda Prelude the other day that had some body styling and a huge freakin' spoiler on it that would have looked OK (the spoiler still would have been to big) if he had some decent wheels on it. But, much to my dismay, he still had the factory wheels on it. It looked horrible!

the factory spoiler, which really has no shape to it, just a long oval, is the primary reason i woudln't buy a 97+ 3rd gen Scort. i think it's almost pointless. if i weren't looking for a full body kit w/spoiler and such, i'd at least replace it with some other generic kind of low profile spoiler, very similar to the 2nd gen Scort spoiler.

Spider - i quite agree; the key to a good lookin car is the choice of rims. go too bland (stock rims, winter rims) and it looks cheap. go for really fancied up designed rims and it'll be to gaudy

I'd leave it round... Trying to get the spoiler off with the trunk braces, as I found out this morning, is a real pain. Installing one that doesn't already have holes drilled would be an even bigger pain, especially if you just got the car...

since the holes are already predrilled it will make it easier to upgrade. I'm sure all you have to do is order one that is made to fit the holes or measure and do a junkyard swap. I kinda like the spoliers that the new grand ams have. I don't think that would be an exact swap.....too bad

spoiler or .............

personally I dom`t like the factory wing . It looks like they tied a cheap skateboard on, plus it`s almost solid underneath not a lot of air can go under it . Wings West has a niceone that I`m considering, but I need to free up the cash first . I must admit that my winglessness is beginning to grow on me ,but I still think I want something low and dignitied not flashy but subtle . your call .
