has anyone tried to put the 8 counterweight crankshaft from an spi into the first gen block? would a custom flywheel be required? the rod end of things shouldnt be a problem, if jeffscortlx's cardomain page is accurate:

RODS
The 2.0L engines all used the same powdered-metal rods. They don’t have a casting number on them, but we’ve seen some of them ink-stamped with an E7EE-BA number

which would make them the rods used in first gen escorts, due to the part number. E7 = 87

dont think anyone has tried it.. in fact, i dont think many ppl who drive these cars ever cracked open the short block of an engine let alone contemplate a crankshaft swap.

haha you might be right. i on the other hand have cracked open at least 3 cvh's and not put them back together, so i guess i cant say much, but i have taken them apart.

i guess i will have to get an spi crank and fnd out for myself, unless someone has already tried it.

anyone?
