Does your cigarette lighter work? Many vehicles use that circuit to supply voltage to the DLC; data link connector.

    Good Morning,

Though I am a smoker, come to think of it, I don't think I even have a socket in there for a cigarette lighter. Maybe I do and just cannot think of it now since I have a disposable lighter in my car.

If I do, what does it mean what you are saying? Sorry again, this car stuff is all new to me.

    Thank you!

    Toni~

Your DLC needs a voltage to certain pin to power up or excite the tester. Many vehicles get that voltage from the circuit for the lighter. The fuse is in the driver's side kick panel under the dash. Ensure good fuse.

OK, thank you. I will check that. Should I get a new fuse just in case? How do I know if a fuse is bad assuming of course that I even have a lighter socket? ( now I am curious..going out to look!) I guess I am not all that attentive, eh?

    Appreciate it :)

Pull out spade style fuse. Look through it, if the metal band between terminals is burnt/broken; fuse is bad. No continuity.

    LOWEGTG,

I just went to check fuses and yes, there is a lighter socket (stupid me..it has a cover on it). I do not see any fuse titled 'lighter'. Would it be with anything else?

OK, just tried the code reader again. It did not go through the initial protocol this time but gave me an option of menus. I chose the first one DTC I think?

Anyhow, PO500 which I believe is the VSS you told me right? And PI506?? That is not even in the little booklet I have. I 'googled' ....Idle??

    thank you!

    Hey Guys,

I just drove down the street and oddly no CEL is on. What do you think is up with that? I'm not complaining of course :) No speedometer/odometer though.

    Thank you,

    Tone~

Reader may have cleared them without your knowledge. Enjoy the drive and see if any return. If I had a spare auto VSS, I'd ship it to you just to try it.

    LOWETGT,

You're a good person! If I hit the lottery, I am going to thank you generously (I never go back on my word) :)

Can I see the VSS from looking at the engine or is it something that only can be seen with the car being lifted. I am curious :)

    thanks again
Hope you have a beautiful day

If it's location is anything like the manuals, then it should be able to be seen from the top. It's on the top rear of the manuals. It will be hard to see, taking the intake tube out will help tons. On mine it's easy to find, I just follow the speedocable, but yours is electronic; so just wires.

    Morning LOWETGT,

Thank you . I appreciate the info though to me it is like reading a language I do not know. Is there a book somewhere with just diagrams? If not, there should be!
Oh and I just ran down the street to Quick Check and sadly my CEL is back on.
Unfortunately many mechanics seem to take advantage and more so with a woman but I am going to check around and get some estimates. Of course they probably would want to diagnose it themselves. I notice too this morning that it is idling much worse than what it was doing. This car has always had (since I have had it almost 2 years) a rough idle but it is really rough now though thankfully not stalling.
Perhaps I will research and create a visual book. What do you think? :)

    Thank you so much again
    Have a beautiful day,
    Tone~
