After my speedometer died in a '91 Escort with 1.9 engine and manual transmission , I replaced the cable only to figure the real problem is probably the drive gear that engages the manual transmission between the physical cable's end and the internal gear in the transmission. Does anyone know a part number and/ or source for this piece? (It includes a Hall effect pickup and is geared, with a coupler that fits the squared off cable.)
The shaft that's removable from the top is easy enough, but the internal gear looks like it can only be replaced by removing the trans. Or is it made to be pulled out like a deeply embedded molar! with pain and collateral damage?
