Heres the info u guys have been debateing:

1. 91'-96' GT's with the 1.8L engine did not come with a governor.

2. 91'-96' Escorts that the 1.9L engine did come with the governor. The wire that needs to be cut or switch added to is there. It is white w/ blk stripe coming from the speed sensor. wire number 159. if that wire is not present it will be Dark Blue

3. 97'+escorts............the wire you are looking for is white w/black stripe.

4. This mod will work on auto's but only at a certain time. U must not flip the switch before u hit your top gear in auto's because in auto's that circuit is tied into the shift schedule and wont allow the car to shift. So do the mod and wait till ur in ur final gear, flip the switch and poof.............no speed limit.

but make sure to switch it back because like i said before, it's tired into the ecu's shift schdule and wont upshift or downshift with out the signal from that sensor.

There u go......have fun

On 2nd gens won't pulling the e-brake up just enough to make the light come on deactivate the limiter?

ummm the Lx-E does, which f-ing sucks, car tops out at 160 km/hr, at 5,000rpm. is there a line specific for the car i need to find?

Nope, no limiter.... unless the automatics have one. I've tested it out, its not there.

when would u have to flip the swith on an auto (third gen) like at what speed (ex. 50mph, 60mph, etc.) im not very good, gear wise,
I'm not sure when those autos switch to the last gear but I'd at least wait till u hit 90mph on hard accel....I figure from then on its safe to do because it should be in it last gear
As you pass through 100 you can go ahead and flip it. Unless you have some serious work done, passing through 100 is an epic event that takes enough time that you can flip a switch. The cutoff doesn't come in until about 115mph so you have time.

The auto should be in 4th gear by the time you get to 85 or 90 though.

The other solution would be to get a Diablo or SCT chip. Part of their standard package is to raise that speed limit. Plus you can gain a few hp from fuel and spark optimzation and such.

i thought u needed a turbo to have the diablo chip. can u use it on a stock engine?
u can chip any car.............N/A or boosted............obviously u'll net more gains on a boosted engine than N/A but u can chip anything.

usually chipping an N/A engine give u about 20-50hp.......very wide range of gains with chips........u may not even see 10hp........it all depends on how the engine is worked and how good of a tune is sent to u in that chip. every car is different even if they have the same engine
where is the 2nd gen speed sensor at, on the ATX?
dont worry bout finding the senson..........find the ecu, and do the wire from there
I've had both my 2nd gens well above 98mph. My wagon was able to hit, I think 130, I had the needle pointed straight down. scary shit, it felt like I was floating. Everything went silent, I was still accelerating and the wheel was super sensitive. It was a five speed btw. My sedan, I haven't been able to take that one over 110.
wheres the ECU then?
should be in ur center console....unless its different from 3rd gens
Hijack...

If I’m driving a manual 3rd gen ZX2 with a S/R computer, what is the top speed I can hit if I’m not limited by horsepower (assume 150+ to the ground; 200+ to 225+ when spraying) or tire speed rating (V’s), and is the limit imposed by the governor or rev limiter? I heard S/R computers don’t have a governor, but I’ve also heard otherwise. And I’ve also heard the rev limiter is set to approximately 7200rpm. So, I guess my question is if I’m in fifth gear 500rpm before redline, how fast am I going (both N/A and spraying)? The only reason I ask, is because if I’m limited by a governor, and I can do the disable or switch mod, I would like to (that’s assuming the rev limiter isn’t holding me back, and I actually can do the mod and gain some top speed room from it). And no, I don’t plan on actually going that fast anywhere outside of a track. So, save your it’s not safe and why do you want to go that fast bs for someone else.

well here's the thing....top speed is determined ultimately by ur gear ratio. and I don't think they changed much in the gear ratio in the s/r....don't quote me...I just never hadthe urge to drive one so I never researched.....now my car wll more than likely top out at about 140-150mph or so.....don't know my top speed yet because I never had a chance to max it.

now what's funny is my car will have a higher top speed unfortunately. the gear ratios in spi trannies are taller than the zx2....the zx2 was more catered to acceleration more so than gas mileage like my sedan.(this is goin off the known gear ratio in the reg. zx2)

N/A or boosted ur top speed will be the same no matter how much power ur ride is putting out. unless u mess with ur gear ratio top speed won't change. but what will change is how fast u get there and how easy it is for ur ride to maintain that speed.

and lastly....there are 2 ways to find out if ur car has a limiter.....ask the person who made the car....or get it to speed on ur own.

I've hit 110 MPH in my 91 scort lx but the trailing arm let go from the body a few days ago so im looking for a scort that needs a drivetrain.

wierd, mine does have one, i tested it last night in the auto version. its 180 @ 4500 rpm.... the manual version i have tops out at 160-170 at 5,000rpm, and refuses to go further, it just sits at that top speed. :S
I've buried my speedo before. Guess it's a no for me.
