Heard the rear are 5x7. But I seen multiple sizes for the doors. Are they 6 1/2 or 5 1/4????

Yes the stock sizes are 5x7 in the rear and 5 1/4 in the front. I put 6 1/2 in the front and 6x8 in the rear of mine. Check with crutchfield and they will tell you exactly what fits and the installation hear you will need

IIRC, Crutchfield will want to sell you 5.25" with a plastic adapter plate for the front. However otherwise they are pretty spot on. If you get a flush-mount pair of 6.5" they will screw in directly to the sheet metal provided you drill some more holes. (OEM speakers use 3 screws)

The only time I saw where a 6.5" wouldn't fit was on a 95 four-door that had a strange little plate covering part of the hole for the speaker. Though I'm sure a few minutes with a dremel cut-off-wheel would have solved that problem. Every other Escort I've done the speakers in didn't have that plate.

Just be sure to not get some that have a truly massive magnet as it will hit the glass when you roll it down.

5x7 is indeed what's in the back. Like Andrew said you can vary the size a bit and you'll sometimes see speakers labelled as for "Ford/Mazda" or something like that due to the apparently slightly odd-ball screw pattern.

I did 6.25 in the front and rear. I used the stock holes in the front, but I had to add 1 hole in the speaker frame to use the 3 holes.

pioneer 6.5 speakers have the three hole mounting configuration so they are plug and play. they are also shallow enough to not interfere with the windows too!
