This may be a stupid question, you might think "well duh!":

I just ordered a new Cd reciver for my escort LX. ITs got 160watts (40 x 4). I dont want to crank it up all the way and see me OEM speakers smoke 8O, so i plane to get new speakers as well and need to know when the From, and rear
speaker sizes are.
Thanks

6.5 on front, and 5x7 for the rear in HBs, I am not sure about wagons but I think it's the same. Sedans have 6.5 in the back.

Pyramid, Are you kidding?
5.25 is wrong. Ask any of us who put in 6.5 and saw that they fit like a glove. Some might have got lucky with 5.25s that had oversized baskets or something and consequently thought that is the right size. Or maybe because the cone in the stock 6.5 is so small it looks like a 5.25.

Ok, 6.5 it is then.

ALso, Etronics has the 95 escort listed as 6in. Why are 6in speakers so much more expenise then 5.25in?

EDIT: NVM, the prices are for 6in pairs.

I haven't heard of 'em, sounds like a 1-off brand kinda deal. They might be a good but lesser-known name, or they might suck. Just remember you get what you pay for. Unless someone else here has heard of them and knows more...

yeah when i put new front speakers in the EGT i bought some 4 1/2 pioneers, got a set for 20 bucks, i had to make some custom brakets to get them to fit, but they worked great. I replaced them with 6.5s that came with an adapter kit and they fit like a glove. Rears are 5x7s, but not all 5x7s have the same mounting points so I had them in with like two screws. worked good but they flopped around a little bit.

Crutchfield ALWAYS sends adapter plates so they'll fit perfectly.

my brother managed to fit 6x9s into the back of his wagon without any problem... and if u want some real nice and probably cheap speakers, go to the boneyard and get the rear speakers out of a 99-04 windstar... they sound GREAT

Hmmm, i havent thought about that. Good idea.

What I think im going to do now, is get some used speakers for the rear ONLY, and get some vibration dampners for the front. The door panel vibrates with to much bass.

I'm an electronics tech, origionally trained in audio systems 20 yrs ago. Stick with well known Japanese manufactures: there is a good reason they cost more. Try getting your Pyramid or Legacy system serviced, not to mention the sound quality sucks. Cars are not designed or built with good accoustics in mind, so going overboard on sound systems (especially woofers) is a waste of money. A Sony Explode deck with matching speakers is probably the best way to go. IMHO.

The quality of the components used (MOSFET amplifier I.C's, processor I.C's, etc.) and the board layout of the deck or amp and the quality of the speaker coils and surrounds have the greatest impact. A reputable reseller will have a display set up that you can compare and match various combinations of decks and speakers. They probably won't have low end systems set up, but if they do, you will hear the difference.

If its better than stock then im happy. I dont need the best quality, cant hear it real well when going highway speeds anyway because of the outside noises, and I dont want people across the parking lot to hear me either.

THanks for the help everyone!

I saw a kid that put his 6X9's in his sub box.... would this be an OK place for them, or would the pressure from the two 10's I have distort it?
