Well, I'm going to be getting a 96 1.9 5speed Escort Lx the end of this week. Wondering where all you guys are getting parts! Not looking to get too extreme just want some more oomph. Say a CAI, header, maybe exhaust. Been looking on the net and haven't really found anything. Anybody got sugestions? Weather it's a source for parts or how to squeeze more hp out of the 1.9.

Well, like I said I don't want to get that extreme.LOL Maybe someday. I was looking at that site you put on there. Did that cone filter come with the piece to bolt to the MAF??

News flash: a CAI hardly does anything for the 1.9L SEFI.

If I were you, the first upgrade I'd do is (next to) free. Which is porting and polishing the valve head. The bottleneck of that engine is by far the valving. After porting, I'd recommend an exhaust header. That wont really get you more than 10hp, but it will GREATLY improve the powerband and torque curve of that engine, which is where it really struggles.

Okay, but once again I don't want to get too extreme, which I think pulling the head off qualifies for. Just wanting easy bolt on suggestions and a place to buy the parts. I'm begining to see that to make real power with this car I would have tear it all apart. So, what can I do with out major mechanical down time? I guess I'm kinda frustrated as I'm used to working on something with forced induction.(turbo dodges) That you can make go really fast with little $$. I've just always like the look of the Escorts and the one I'm getting is being given to me so, I really can't complain, but I don't have the ti,e to tear it all apart as it is going to be my daily driven car.

yes, it did come with an adapter. say your escort runs 17.8 in the 1/4 mile. what kinda times are you shooting for? this might help a little bit. thanks

not really planing on racing alot. Just want something that it at least feels faster. I would have rather had a GT than the LX but like I said it is free. Driven both styles of car also. I guess I'd be pretty happy if it was close to the feeling of driving a GT. Is that possible??
