First clean-up ready for September 7th Trax show at Silverstone. Not bad for a standard 11 year old engine methinks!! :D

That is really clean :!:
Pretty interesting intake. Over the rocker cover. I don't think I've seen it done like that before. :D

:D Good old Ford design! Never had a problem though. Might be getting a K&N but am a bit reluctant to veer away from the standard - it's part of my car's 'charm.'

That's just the first clean, another half a dozen or so to go! :?

Runs 106bhp and is absolutely standard. :? Having said that, it's a really 'nippy' little car on it's 14" alloys and I've had the dial at 130mph 'down boot hill with the sail up!" :D

All US first gen non-HO are like that, and the 1.6 RS turbo's do that to. I would have a hard time changing and moding such a well preseved car.

Looks really good Foxy. Wish my engine was that clean.... but I'd have to cover my intake now before I sprayed it down though. :D

I noticed that intake too...very weird...wouldn't that make the air hotter by the time it gets to the TB? :? Not very efficient in my eyes but hey it runs so I wouldn't complain...what kind of gas mileage do you get with it Foxy?

:D Thanks for the compliments James: I used a cupful of Gunk, a detailing brush, a watering can full of warm water. a roll of kitchen paper and Meguiar's detailing gel on the black bits. I then just used a polishing cloth to finish. Wouldn't dare spray my engine - not positive enough and would be afraid of getting water where water shouldn't get! :?

As to the air intake passing over the rocker, that's just good old Ford for you - doesn't affect the running temps at all though. I get an average of 32mph which is pretty good with petrol at approx. $6 per gallon!! :(

:D Thank you kind sir - all compliments gratefully received. Mind you, it's not a patch on some of the other engines on Mkv.

That's it 8O

On my way home from the Aug. Ontario Escort meet, plus one days drive to work and back I got 42mpg. I thought the euro scorts got like 50 or 60 mpg. But then again, if you do a lot of stop and go driving, you're doing not bad.

Yes! The driving I based my average mpg on is my drive to work - stop and go. Get around 48-50 on motorways, depending on speed. The optimum speed is around 56mph but naturally do higher speeds than that on motorway, otherwise I should be hooted off the road!! :D
