Alright, I'm not terrible with computers, but there's been a couple times in the last week or so, Internet explorer freezes, so I do my ALT CTRL DEL, but instead of going under applications like usual, under processes, it shows iexplorer open 5-6 times, all using different amounts of memory...explorer is only open once though on my screen. WTF??

does it say IEEXPLORE or just EXPLORER? cause on my machine Windows puts IEEXPLORE for the internet browser, but Windows EXPLORER is the program name given to all the windows and folders you have opened.. including browser windows. so it can be any type of folder that you have open, not just the internet browser.

edit: it now puts CrazyBrowser since I switched over to that skin... but I Still get EXPLORER for any windows and other things I am browsing on my computer.

Hope you can figure it out. when in doubt... add more memory... hahaha

You know what?

My Internet Explorer started acting up a week ago too. I could not go to any site by typing in a site name - I had to have a shortcut already.

Now suddenly as of today, that problem has disappeared.

Now to hijack this thread...My IE does still stall for up to a couple of minutes some times (I have DSL). My solution - I disconnect then reconnect and it's as fast as it should be.

But I AM a computer retard, so who knows.

I'll tell you what. If one of you geeks can come over and fix my computer, I'll fix your car.

Misfit - based on what I see in that sig pic, you need to de-oxidize those headlights. How can you even see with your headlights?

sounds spyware related to me... google "ad aware" and download it, if you dont already have it. Runit, and it should find a bunch of spyware on your computer.

Not sure if that was directed to me or Yoda, but I run Ad Aware once a week or so, 'cos those porn site always drop data miners on my comp  .

Ad Aware doesn't seem sufficient to nuke whatever is haunting my confuser anyway.

run spybot and adaware. Also try and find cwshredder. Hijack this is a good tool, but you can mess some stuff up in your computer. If it's showing multiple iexplorer, it's spyware trying to open multiple internet explorer windows. It could potentially be a virus, but not likely that it would cause that. I would still check with a virus scanner (a reputable one like norton, or heaven forbid, mcafee after too.) I see these problems every day at the computer store I work at. Those programs always seem to fix it. If you run hijack this.... and you don't feel comfortable removing the things by yourself... post what it finds on here, and I can help you out.

Misfit, it's not exporer that's running, well, it's there, but iexplorer is open 5-6 times too. I have adaware and spybot that run when the computer boots up.

96LX, I don't have hijack this on the computer. Heard of it though. It doesn't happen often. I'll try and run spybot and adaware regularly for the next week or so and see if it picks anything up to fix it.

I wouldn't trust any of you monkeys to work on my car, but I'm glad you're here to help with computer problems  .

You guys should migrate to a computer forum instead, since you don't know jack-sh!t about cars :p :p  .

*buys a round for everyone, even Josh*

Josh, I gotta be honest, I always look forward to seeing you on here when I am...it's so much more entertaining to have an on-going pissing match for laughs.

I also run Giant Anti-Spyware. Giant was recently acquired by Microsoft but you can still get some older downloads of the software. It's quite effective and very easy to use.

It's pretty clean from spyware. I updated both last night and only 4 files were found.

Download and run Stinger. It's a tiny virus checker from McAffee that has the most recent updates. Every time you try to use it, re-download it (if it's been more than a few days). It will find stuff the normal virus scans can't find (including McAffee).

What operating system do you use, Jlaasf84?

Stinger does not do all of the viruses that come out, only certain ones. If it did them all, than the anti virus program would be useless. The stinger though, will get rid of a lot of more common viruses out there. I would also recommend checking what processes are running (if you have windows XP) and anything that seems weird, search for it on the net, and there are many sites that will tell you if it's a legitimate process or a virus.

Yeah, there's a lot running. Some I know what they are, but other names are so messed up, I'm not sure what they are.

if you have some that just look like jiberish, it's normally some real pain in the @$$ spyware. I find viruses normally try and make their names look legit.

I guess I'll have to take some time and do some searching around. It's not really a problem. It's not running right, but it's not far off normal it seems. Whenever I've had a virus it slows waaaaaay down. To the point where I want to throw it out the window.
