I just got my sons 98 zx2 up and ruuning again.The new trans is great.Anyway.I have 4 codes.PO340 cam sensor circuit malfunction 1401 feedback sensorvoltage high 1409 vacuum control solenoid malfunction and 1520 intake runner control fault.We never ran the codes when we picked the car up a couple months ago.Needed a tranny first so I took car of that first.It runs pretty good.It wants to stall sometimes and has a hesitation when goosing it off idle.Can one of these codes cause the rest of them??I am told that the PO340 cam sensor issue is either the cams are off a tooth or the pickup ring is bad.Not sure on the rest.I hate picking cars up with unknown issues.The car does scream though.Pretty impressed with it.Any help please.

After i had my transmission replaced an auto. My car started with the code P0340. I do not think it was related I just found that interesting. I did not notice any major difference with that code on. I deleted that code and restarted my car. It came back once, but normally the code does not exist. My best guess is there was an error in the cam sensor that threw that code. I would try clearing that code and see what happens.

Cleared the codes

I cleared them and they came back after the second time starting the car.
I wonder if all 4 codes are related some how.

There's a code on your list that's bothering me: the P1520. As far as I know, the Zetec doesn't have an Intake Runner Control.

Yeah I wondered about that as well.Would that be for a sohc escort??It doesnt have egr either but it comes up with a 1409 and 1401.I swapped the cam sensor, still the same.Checked the timing belt and its all good in time.The reluctor ring on the cam is good.I can plug or unplug the cam sensor and nothing changes.I checked the wiring and found nothing wrong.What am I missing or could the wrong ecm be in there??

Might have something to do with the vct system. IIRC the vct does the same job as the egr system.

If the timing belt is off, will it do this as well??Can I check the VCT to make sure its good.

I put a MTA8 code ecu and the car runs awesome.No codes, hesitation anymore and screams.Now onto mods.

Glad to hear you got it fixed! So the car did have the wrong computer in it?

Yes it was most likely an ecu from an SPI escort.I compared it to the spare spi ecu I have and the code is close.The kid that had the car before me was a tool.

Well, that does explain the P1520. The computer can't control what's not there. I'm actually surprised the car ran!

I just found this thread when I googled my codes. I know it's been a couple years since you posted. I have a 2003 ZX2 that I bought recently. I purchase it at an auction so I have no history on it. Anyway the car has the exact same codes that you had P0340, P1520, P1401, and P1409. The car stalls at ideal but will scream on down the road. Where is the ECU located on the car and how difficult is it to replace? Thanks
