hey guys, so i recently bought a 97 escort lx 2.0L. the other day i was taking off the clamp thing that held together the muffler to the exhaust piping (not sure what anything is really called) and it snaped when i was lossening it becuase of the rust. im planning on buying a new muffler for the car and a new bracket thing, but i cant get the muffler off. :/ i think its just rust so i sprayed it with liquid wrench but its still not moving. if anyone has any tips for my problem that would be really apreiated. i was also wonder what are some easy ways and easy bolt on's for getting some more power. thanks.

Yes those mufflers can be a real pain sometimes when they are rusted. Usually if you have a propane torch you can heat it up and loosen it a bit. And try turning the muffler as you pull. As for bolt on mods most people start with an intake, just dont expect a huge boost in performance. If you're already replacing the muffler you should get something with a straight through design.

Believe me, its not just rust. The original clamp is tightened to the extent that it crimps the muffler to the pipe making it impossible to slip it off. You will have to cut it off, no way around it.

ok thanks for the help, and ya it looked like the clamp was so tight that i squished the exhaust piping so ill try heating it first and if that fails ill cut it. thanks again...
for putting in an intake system, how do i access the throttle body without the big cover thing, do i just rip the cover off?

What big cover thing? There was no cover on or near the throttle body on my car.
