siragan: No offence, But i would do ANYTHING possible to get my license plate changed if i were you. I clicked on your link and seen the pic of the waggy and the dog, Then i noticed the front plate...........

As far as the wording goes.....is a SOHC if it has one cam per head....if it has two cams per head its a DOHC. If it has two cams per head but two heads (its a quad cam (but usually only buicks and off shoot Chevy´s coined the term quad cam))

If it has SOHC but two heads....its still SOHC, not DOHC.

You know this seems a little off topic, but just above I mentioned the cobra motor. My favorite thing about those motors is right on one of the valve covers it says:

Hand built with pride by:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thats what american motorsports is all about. Motors being hand built and then signed by the makers. Having pride in your car and your motor....even if it isn´t the fastest thing out there.

Just to clear up an earlier comment... the 1.9 SEFI engine is a single overhead cam with 8 valves, that´s 2 per cylinder, 1 intake valve, 1 exhaust valve. The 1.8 GT engine is dual overhead cam, that´s 4 per cylinder. Each cam therefore acctuates 8 total valves: 1 cam for 8 intake valves, 1 cam for 8 exhaust valves. It IS possible to build a 16 valve SOHC engine, look at Honduh. But for the Escort line, it´s 8 valve for the 1.9, and 16 valves for the 1.8.

Ferrari also used the label quad-cam some of the 1972 365 GTB. I think it was a 4.4 liter v-12 now thats a sweet piece of engineering!

ok i think i confused myself when i was typing all that this morning. dohc is two cams per bank of cylinders. Mustang Cobra SVT, Escort GT, and sohc is one cam per bank of cylinders, Mustang GT, Escort LX. that is the easiest way to explain it.
