hehe I didn´t think it was all that funny

hey nukewater- did you put a new intake on your GT? I want to put in a K&N "performance kit" which is something like 170 bucks or so at the local auto parts store, but I´m wondering if it´s just a cone filter that I bolt on to the MAF, or if it´s an ENTIRE replacement for the intake and hose. I´d really like a stainless steel hose and cone filter, along with a new cat-back exhaust.

Does anybody here have a picture of a catalytic converter? I´ve never seen one and I am thinking of taking mine apart and cleaning it all out.

Oh- and by the way, I´m not sure on the 1.9L SEFI, but I think that it may be an UNDERHEAD cam. In other words, the cam is down by the bottom of the engine or something and the lobes push on rods. These rods then push on the lifters which open the valves.

So, I was just looking on tirerack.com and was looking at the rotors. Why are some of them for DOHC and some for SOHC? How would there be a difference? And I´m guessing if I had to chose between the two, I´d say I´d need the SOHC rotors, right?

Siragan, Slap yourself one more time. There is no such thing as underhead cam. It is refered to OHV- Over Head Valve(a.k.a. push rod engine.). The 1.9L is a strange bugger though. It is refered to as Cam In Head. OHV engines have the cam in the block, but the 1.9 has the cam in the bottom of the head, and therefore still needs lifters to move the rocker arms. It doesn´t use pushrods though like the OVH engines do. Isterd, it has nubs at the tops of the lifters that act as the lifters. Hopefully that clears up some mystery. And quit gloating. If it weren´t for this forum, you wouldn´t have nealy as much "wisdom" as you have now.

Thats alright siragan, the only way to learn is to ask. And as for the rotors thats the stupidist thing i have ever herd of labiling them dohc and sohc. Thats like going to pep boys and telling them you need new brakes and they ask if you have air conditioning in your car. Have had it happen before. I think the gt has a bigger brake system to it. I know it got 4 wheel disc but i also think it´s bigger than the lx.

Yeah....Siragan is overflowing with only the knowlege I sweat off in my hard work
(j/k) I just have more hours of hands on work and screwing stuff up more often.

Justin (aka PIMP) has probably more knowledge then most of us....seeing that he´s a Ford mechanic and all...and has tons of hours in Mustangs too.

yeah the 1.9L is still Over Head Cam (SOHC that is). Older motors (bigger ones) are usually OHV...however alot of V6´s are now Quad-Cam type set ups. Like two DOHC´s slanted away (or really screwy like the EJ20 WRX motor which is an opposing quad cam "flat H-4&quot

Yeah I agree it was stupid to say it like like, should just be GT and LX. LX´s have rear drum brakes, GT´s have rear 9" discs. The fronts are the same.

Thanks a lot Blade. I won´t let that go to my head like some people I know. (J/K Siragan) I am always here to help and lend all the knowledge I have to anyone else who needs it. Like I told Siragan when I was chatting with him earlier today, "I wasn´t born with a Chilton in my head..." I know what it´s like to be into something and not know every aspect about it, and doing what I can to find out more info. I was lucky when it comes to cars though. My dad built Race engines for the cars my grandpa owned back when I was too young to even say horspower. So I grew up in the shop and at the track. But I only got so much knowledge that way. The rest I got from books, magazines, and experience. My dad and grandpa taught me how engines work, and how they are built, but when I got my Mustang, I had no idea how to tune it. I could tell you what parts did what, but not exactly what that meant. Thats when I started reading, and talking to other friends who were into cars. I bought 3 books specificly about Holley carburators so I would know exactly how to tune mine. But then that wasn´t enough. I had to know more. So I went to school and got a degree in Automotive Technology. I grew up around Carburated engine all my life, I had no idea how Fuel Injection worked, so I payed extra close attention to those classes in school. Knowing what I did about carbs though I was able to teach most of the guys who only knew about F.I. cars about how carbs worked, and in return they shared their F.I. knowledge with me. The Scort was the first F.I. car I ever owned. Learning is important, but teaching enables a person to learn even better. That´s why I come here almost every night, and chat with anyone who has a question. Sometimes I find myself answering someones question and realizing that I answered a few of my own questions in the process, or getting new ideas from reading various other things. Sorry Blade I said I wouldn´t let this go to my head, but I might have taken this too far. I try to be modest with my knowledge, as to not come off as being a cocky know it all, but it feels good to be recognized. I am by no means a car geniuss. But I do what I can with what I know.

Oh yea Blade. Forgot to add that as far as I know of the quad cam set up on a V or H engine is still refered to as DOHC since there are two cams over each head. The biggest difference with the Mustang GT and the Cobra is the Cobra has a 4.6 DOHC (4 cams) and the GT is a 4.6 SOHC (2 cams).

now i don´t know the LX engine but I do know it´s a 1.9L SEFI SOHC, which means that the Single cam is above the engine and it does operate 16 valves if i´m not mistaken? It doesn´t have push rods and whatnot, those are good for small block V8s like the old Camaro/Corvette and Mustang GT engines. You don´t technically need DOHC configuration to operate 16 valves. New Mustang GTs are SOHC and operate 16 valves, technically they´re DOHC, because they have two cams, 1 per bank of 4 cylinders with 32 valves, 16 on each bank of 4 cylinders too.

Okay everyone, I´m at it again, I´m going to make a page with all the acronyms I can think of, what they stand for, and what they mean (you´ll see what I mean).

I´ll post a message up here so ya´ll can go check it out and give me any suggestions.
