I have been talking to a friend of mine that runs CFT in Florida... He is wondering if there is a market for such a turbo kit, and I told him I think there is. Epically with all the "turbo" post I have seen here lately.

So here is my question, What would the average escort owner be willing to pay for a turbo kit (complete)?

here is the company web site.. they do some sick stuff!!1 8)

What do you mean by "complete" ?
a)Are you talking a Full Bolt on Turbo setup with fuel and timming management, or,(injectors, maf, ECU chip,etc...)
b) just manni,turbo,pipes,IC( pre-bent to fit setup)
c)what would the proposed output be?(4,5,8,10 PSI,etc....)
d)what type of turbo is to be used and what trim...
All these factors are needed in order to offer a price...
So please elaborate...

Judging by the prices on their site....
IC minimum 500
Turbo minimum 900
etc...

A complete kit would be way more than the average escort owner would be willing to pay. The issue you run into with escort owners is that we own these cars most of the time because they are cheap economical transportation.

Most of us couldn't afford a 3K kit to bolt on to these cars. That likely would be around the minimum price a bolt on kit with fuel management would cost.

for example i think for the miatas, flying miata has a bolt on basic 6 lb boost kit 50 state legal for like 2-3 g i memory servs right, and thats without an intercoller.
might if no smog legal stuff make it around 1500-2000 some might go for it, but with a gtx option for like 600 you should include better stuff if you make it more.

You make an excellent point but at the same time, Civics are the same thing. My buddy shawn paid about 2100 for his 92 hatch and he has done a frank setup with custom turbo setup. I would say he has put in at least 8000 in upgrades and mods. What I mean is that yes we buy the car for the cost but we are still willing to put in the extra money. But you are right though people are way more likely to do a "junk-yard" turbo setupi because honestly its more fun and you learn more and TIS CHEAP!!!

I agree with Jeff, I think I can say safely that as a whole community, that we would rather "Make our own kit", than buy one for 3G's, why, because we are all cheap asses! Ok, maybe we aren't, but the point is people who are going to turbo there car all seem to do it a little differently, and with that said I don't think a uniformed standard turbo kit would really sell... but individual parts would, plus it would be cheaper for the person making it since all he/she has to care about is say the exhaust manifold, or perhaps the fuel system.... all in all it would be cheaper and easier for someone willing to do it, just to focus on one part, that way his/her investment intially into making the part is lower (ljust one part as compared to a entire kit), thus making it more realistic to actually happen, plus make it cheaper for us... but thats my take on it...

^ good point. Any time some on with there Escort wants to go faster, you allways here "but I cant spend much doing it."

The % of members here that have $3000 just laying around is small. But we could caugh up 200 here and another 100 there to peice togeter our own turbo setup. Any one that has tried to get the EXP, or RS mani know's it's next to impossible to find.

if it costs less than what i can buy a GTX for then there may be interest.

but so long as we can buy a $600 engine and have it installed and boosting 9psi for under a grand, forget about any mail order crap.

I think just manifolds would be the biggest interest in the Escort community.

Coming from a tight-budgeted college students perspective:

I would love to be boosting.

I would love to hear the BOVs.

I don't have that much to spend.

If the mail order was under a G, I would eat Ramen noodles for a month to save up to buy one. I could install a small GT25 in a weekend... but I would need mani. and new headers. That will cost some.

Conclusion:
Average Escort owner (using it as a daily driver) would overlook option. Escort Enthused would spring for a turbo if it was cheap, and came with *everything needed.

*Everything: Refer to WANNAGOFAST's definition of "Complete."

Okay, to be honest, three grand US for a kit to put on my car, when I paid $1500 CDN for the car it would be going on is not very practical. Although, all together the turbo from a junkyard and ebay will probably double the cost of the car, buying a kit for twice the price, regardless of how well engineered or complete would be a big investment.

I agree with the aforementioned posts, a repro RS mani would be nice. Better yet, try and make one that surpasses it and flows better. That would have more interest.

deff forget the entire turbo setup and make turbo manafolds with the diffrent flanges. That would deff sell on these sites. also if you can make custom downpipes as well. that two would probably sell. Especially for people like me who can't make a downpipe.
