The piece in our car is totally different from the piece in the Miata. It has Ford stamped all over it and it sucks ass. I have tryed everything to get the internal parts out of it. So im gonna have to buy a manual rack. Right now I have it ghetto rigged with some oil dumped into it but it is hard to turn with it just out of the car so im gonna buy the manual rack. Just giving everybody a heads up on it. If someone knows some tricks that I dont know about the rack than please give me a heads up before I buy the manual one. Thanks

what made you think it would work and why do you want a miata one?

I just looped my stock lines around on themselfs and left it like that. Its really not that hard to turn.

No I was trying to do the Power to manual rack conversion like some one linked to in another thread. Using the Miata rack conversion as a basis to convert ours to manual. AKA I was not trying to stick a Miata rack into my car. I am going to buy the Escort Manual rack. I am not going to do the lines looped around blah blah blah. I will find the link that someone posted in the other thread that way you know what im talking about.

P.S. Here is the link..... http://www.flyinmiata.com/tech/depower.php

hmmm, i was told that the EGT had the same rack as the 323/protege which people have sucessfully de-powered using that how-to as a basis.

apparantly our rack is different :(

Im not going to look at that link because I hate miata guys wright ups on everything. They nitpic everything and complain when something is not 100% perfect.
why make something harder then it needs to be?

when peoples cars cost more then a few thousand bucks they like to "make it a nice". If my car isnt perfect i cant go to sleep.

Does anyone have nice looking lug nuts for the ZX2?
Mine are just so tacky! Maybe something with diamonds?

    :D :D

Having a nice car can be nice, but some people just go to extremes.

you can depower an EGT rack, i did mine the other day. its pretty easy if you use a little common sense. some things are different than the mazda racks, but nothing crazy. for example the end cap is held in by a huge snap-ring instead of being threaded on.

I want to tell anyone that want to do this mods, I run an depowered steering rack, if you do highway and you don't have to park your car in tight spaces, it's gonna be okay

otherwise, the steering is a pain in the a** to turn while the car is stopped, you'll need both hand to turn the steering wheel, it's not quite fun

I hate when I have to park my car, it's a nightmare but other than that, it's fun, you'll fell the road like never before and if there is something wrong in your direction, you'll know it, trust me!

if you can afford it and be able to find one, get your hand on a manual steering rack off a pony, otherwise, a modded powersteering rack is reasonable if you don't do city driving too often

btw, the plastic cap is impossible to take off, take a wire welding gun and cut a hole in the middle big enough to put a 15mm socket ( not sure, it make 2 months i've done the mod ) to unscrew the bolt underneath and when your done depowering it, glue a washer in place on the top with JB weld to keep the dirt out, I also plugged the holes with JB weld, it make a better job than to bend the lines and is a good alternative if you don't have a welder at home

    good luck

also, i forget which model mx3 but i imagine one of the base models 92-94 had a manual steering rack, and it also has a tighter ratio than the escort pony manual, if you can find one that is..
