Okay I just got new tires and my car rides a lot better but still has room for improvement. My car seems kinda of bouncy and bounces with the rodes if that makes since. How can I make it ride the smoothiest without spending a lot. Id like to lower the front like 2 inches too. Spring you recommend? better shocks? bushings maybe?

gas shocks will be bumpier. any lowering won't help either. I assume your going to do, or have done low profile tires, not the right decision either. new stock parts will be good for improving the ride, but it won't be anything nice to look at. sometimes you need to sacrifice comfort for style.

How many miles are on your current struts and springs? If you're at 100k+ your struts are probably shot and your rear springs might be broken which will cause it to bounce when you hit bumps because the struts aren't dampening the ride as much as they need to.

I have Mazda mx-3 H&R springs and KYB struts, and while the car handles like it's on rails, it's a bit stiff. I've heard the Eibach springs are the softest of lowering springs available for the escort and work well with the Tokico s/r struts. I've also heard good things about sprint springs which can be picked up for about $140 off ebay.

If you lower it... it won't be smooth at all. If it's really bumpy right now, you might have a spring / shock problem already. I know that tires will also make a big difference too. Even though they're not low profile, they may still give a crappy ride. I sacraficed a good ride for price.

I disagree, with a decent set of springs and struts designed for the car (like the Eibach/Tokico setup), it should ride smooth

Rules:
  • 1. You can't lower without getting a harsher ride. Unless you have insanely expensive active control suspension.
    2. Cheaper shocks are generally more pillowy than expensive shocks.

Use the stock springs, some cheap no-name shocks, the stock rims, and some yokohama avid touring tires and you'll have a very smooth, soft, and comfortable ride.

Dok33:

An expensive tokico/eibach setup (I should know, I have one) does ride smooth, but not soft. Big difference.

If your rear springs are ok, a new set of struts should fix the problem.

ive heard the stiffest ride comes with mazda mx3 h and r springs, with the right strut (tokico s/r) and itll lower you but its hard to lose the bouncyness

im running on ground controls and tokico blues and man shes really bouncy when raised, and cushy when lowered but hurts a bit more

  • This is absolutely untrue. If you get the proper strut/spring combination such that you do not lose suspension travel and have the struts properly valved for the spring rate you are using, the ride can be just as smooth as stock. Of course, if you ground the car, all bets are off, but hopefully you don't have to drive over 5' speed bumps on your daily drive.
