do a compression check.. that might be your problem.. blown rings or yer valves has too much crap on it... o yah when was the last time u got a tune up...but it sounds like rings.. cuz mine does that, right when i hit around 80.. i started lossing power around 90 then the needle goes down slowly. like the cars struggling

a compression test is when you get a compression tester (a gauge on a hose that has a metal threaded tip that screws where you removed the spark plug from then (with all the plugs un done and out) floor the accelerator pedal and turn the car over for a set amount of rotations on each cylinder (3 or 4) and it will give you a compression reading... i believe on a newish motor you will want 180 190 range but 150-170 is not terrible for a 10 year old car.

Before I went GTX my GT did the same thing. Its not because the rings are bad or the motor has poor compression its just how the gearing is. The 1.9 is not a performance motor, and the shitty geared tranny doesnt help much either. I wouldnt waste my time doing mods to a 1.9 i would either do a swap or go turbo.

hmm it could be the gearing to.. but i tried my friends gt compared to mine it still pulls at 100 ... un like mine around 90 it starts to struggle.. then when we did a compression test.. guesss what...............80% blow by at cylinder #3 ..40% at 2 then 50% at 1and 20% at 4 ..well thats what i get for revvinn around 7 grand lol..i love to abuse this B!t&h .. but now i gotta baby it XD

Not all LX's have the problem

I used to drive a '93 LX wagon and never had a problem burying the needle. It was fully stock with a 5-speed. My current '98 SE Sport sedan still pulls pretty hard when I hit 90 in 4th gear and want to go more when I shift to 5th. The 2.0 SPI does feel more powerful than the 1.9 but also my gearing feels different also. If you have good plugs and wires and are using good fuel you shouldn't have any problems. But if you have been a lead foot with it since you have had it chances are you may have f'ed something up. Could also be something really simple that is right under your nose waiting to be discovered. Who knows. When I did have problems with my 1.9 it turned out to be a worn out tranny.

The escort has always been looked down upon here in the states as just a "grocery getter", but it had along career in racing. The escort in it's rarest and most potent form has even been in the Gueness Book Oof Records as the quikest car in the world. So there is my reality check. Don't underestimate a car just because it says ESCORT on it.

Never say never.

I wouldn't say never. While technically the LX was supposed to only have a top speed of 110 all car manufacturors have had 1 or 2 cars that don't operate the way they where designed to. That is why there are such things as lemons and why you can find people that praise cars for things that they aren't known for. I know the LX is capable of it because I was behind the wheel when it was accomplished. I would never do it again as the car felt like it was barely in contact with the road and I don't recomend anyone else try it since the stock Lx suspension and wheel\tire combo are meant for city driving at sane speeds.
