.. going into downtown norfolk headed from NC (if you're from this area, you probaby know what i'm talking about).. following 2 friends, one in an SHO, and one in a '01 mustang GT, cruising at 120+ mph.. i'm at the back (obviously) when the highway shrinks from 3 lanes to two (the fast lane ends).. well there is a neon in the middle lane (which has now turned into the fast lane), so i attempt to move to the slow lane to pass it.. switching 2 lanes at 120+mph in an escort with stock suspension and 200+lbs. removed from the rear of the car is never a good idea. let me tell you. tap the brakes, rear end decides it wants to go down the road faster than my front end, it's get crooked, overcorrect, overcorrect, overcorrect, and about an 1/8th of a mile later, and 30mph slower, i finally get things back under control.. my heart has never gone from 60bpm to 150bpm so fast.. :) good times..

dumbass

I hate to sound like your dad, but dude, that is some stupid shiet. sideways at 60 isn't a great idea either, but it's realatively sane....be carefull brother

I'm no angel, i used to do stupid shiet like that too...so learn from my experiences. chill out, do it legal, you'll have much more fun, and you'll become a better driver. Trust me, your heart will be pumping just as fast at the track :)

I love that feeling, losing control, thinking all hell is going to break lose, then BAM you're back before you even knew what hit you and you have so much adrenaline pumping that you want to scream and tackle some zebra and rip it's fl... sorry, got carried away.

That must've been fun, mate :)

I actually dodged a deer in the adirondacks when I was doing about 85 or so. It was smart and stupid at the same time. Stupid because 85mph really isn't safe, but it's well worth the rush. I'm immature, and I love every minute of it. But it was smart of me to spend all those nights at 11pm when I get off work in the parking lot messing around with the car and learning how it handled.

Anyway, I was coming out of a turn and into a straightaway, fully floored in 4th... and a deer decides to jump out about 120 feet in front of me- which is very tight at such high speed. Anyway I hit the brakes in a panic, lock them up (realizing I wasn't going to stop in time) and then I veer left into the oncoming lane, throwing out the back end. Anyway, I instinctively corrected and applied the gas and managed to get the car stable within a second or two. It was kindof scary. Man what a rush. heh

I was driving all over the place late last night (I got the new tires mounted and ditched the snowtires on the rear axle :D) testing out my new Schroth 3 point harness. It feels slower when you're not being tossed around the car (like my proverbial Monkey in a Washing Machine). Anyway, I took it moderately easy, because it was kinda foggy, the road was wet (and freshly, messily patched,... NC DOT can go to hell) and the escort headlights are teh suck. There's a short gravel bit that's fairly smooth and wide heading down the backside of the mountain that I was hauling ass up, and I had a little fun with some handbrake slides. I was going about 20mph at the time, but it was a big enough rush for me (especially since there's a near vertical drop-off on one side of the road).

I shot through some other backroads, all the while never exceeding 90%, but my eyes were like 8O the whole time, scanning the path ahead for animals, cars and gravel/rocks. As I was ending my journey through the boonies and heading back into town (the last good curve, actually) I saw a medium sized raccoon dart out of the grass in front of me.. he went diagonally through the curve.. and didn't double back, so I ended up missing his tail by about 6" as I braked and then dove hard to the inside of the corner.

That was enough of a rush for one night.. and it was all done at legal speeds :D

PS: On the way home, in town, I had a RSX Type-S (from Tennesse  ) kinda cut me off. He moved over, I resumed my previous speed and came up beside him... he looked over at me, I was kinda glaring at him.. I looked down the road and saw that there was a green arrow for a shortcut home if I could just make it in time.. I downshifted and took off, the light turned yellow before I even reached the turn lane, so I ended up going straight. It was a bit  because I know he saw me ride up beside him.. he saw I had my harness on.. and then he heard my LX wagon's intake bark and saw me accelerate away from him at a mundane pace. I'm sure he thought I was trying to race him.. and I'm sure he was  all the way home. :x

what the hell is a aridondac?
Well, the Adirondacks are mountians in Northern NY. Aridondacs I can't find any information on, but they sound like they're small, fuzzy and mean as hell. :p

that sounds pretty scary, tito. losing your shi*t in traffic would be pretty gnarly, especially when your going that fast.

Some people think that it's dumb to drive fast no matter what. some think its only dumb in certain contexts. I'm one of the second ones, but like the rest of you, i have been known to do dumb stuff on occasion.
But, keeping that in mind, i also don't use that as an excuse to be dumb on purpose. Being dumb on purpose is, like, über dumb.

I guess, what i mean is, drive fast if you want, but don't hurt any innocent slow people.[/u]

Dumbest thing I have ever done was on i70 heading towards plainfield. I decided that since Ive been on this highway alone and had nothing to do but sit there bored. I smashed it 85 and yanked the ebrake... It was fun but that darn retaining wall came up fast and I missed it by an 1" or so The car actually stopped doing 360's and ended up 1" from that wall... wow talk about a rush...

Depending on the track, yes you can. We hit 112 at the end of the front straight at Lime Rock, and it's a shorter track than some in other parts of the country.

but i also have to agree that one of the most exciting thing to do in a car is to race on a highway along a steady flowing trafffic... feels so nice to wave between cars !!!

Sorry to be a 'killjoy' but my friend's 12 year old daughter's pony was hit from behind by one of two drivers racing on a country lane. She was unhurt but had to wait over an hour for a vet to arrive to attend to her much loved pony as he lay in the road with a severed hind leg. By the time the vet arrived, of course he had bled to death. Not something the kiddy will ever forget.

Remember it's not only yourselves you may hurt!
