Max Attack 2WD Rally Championship Video Coverage - Round 1 - Idaho Rally

Max Attack is the premiere 2WD Championship in the United States, and the only championship that pays out money to the winners (top 5 actually). For more information on the series and to follow events live visit http://www.max-attack.com

Day One:

Day Two:

Some of you may know me, some may not. I rally race a '91 Escort GT. This is my car:

There are a few other people that also race EGTs and one 3rd gen. Who's car is this?

You will hear them mention Ojibwe (Ojibwe Forests Rally), which I will be attending. If you're in the north east check out New England Forest Rally this weekend. http://newenglandforestrally.com/ and if you're near Minnesota August 28-29 come check out Ojibwe Forests Rally http://www.ojibweforestrally.com/ come say hi to me, check out the cars, and get some autographs.

Thanks for checking it out,
Paul

There was an escort at Idaho---Terrence Peterson---he finished back in the order, right in front of a ford ranger that I've worked on in the past. That ZX2 may have been Rodney's (from the gravel crew) old car. He had some success with it years ago, but not as much as Tad Otake had---I think he may have won a championship in the escort. Between yours, JRALLY's escort, the one I'm currently building, and the few around we may have about 10 in the country by the end of the year.

There's a guy in Minnesota that's building one. I talked to him about having an epic Escort showdown at Ojibwe some time.

They don't make too bad of a rally car. The only thing I don't like is how peaky the motor is with the shift from 1st to 2nd.

I think I might just have to go check out that rally up near bemidji.
Sweet. Make sure you make it to Parc Expose, I haven't met anyone in rally I didn't like so feel free to walk right up and chat with anyone.

Several of the guys have talked about making "hero cards" kinda like trading cards only bigger. I thought about having some made up so I could give them to people. They work out great for autographs and you don't have to scrounge up something to have signed (although I will sign breasts ;) )

Jon, that shift really screwed me up at the rallycross that we had. I had too much grip in second gear (wtf? grip on gravel? rally tires work wonders) and I just spun the clutch for almost the whole run overheating it. Not so good for my foot down driving style. My solution for Ojibwe is to not slow down enough to require a 2-1 downshift.

I'll try to come up with some more Escort off-road eye candy.

If I remember correctly, Ohtake won the John Woodner Cup(two wheel drive stuff before max attack) in a supercharged zx2 then disappeared. I haven't been checking out the rally stuff for a while but it looks like the entries are WAY down compared to not that many years ago. Probably the economy and the non "greenness" of the sport.

Entries may be down but competition is fiercer than ever. I know that there are many people that don't like the direction the sport is going (X Games and what not) and entry fees and towing the car around has been the bane of my racing career. However, MaxAttack! definitely supports competition with a $5000 purse per race that gets spread all the way out to 5th place. The only other event that you can win money at is X Games.

In reference to the greenness of the sport, an entire season of NASCAR (trucks, cars, and everything) uses less fuel than 1 day of LA freeway traffic. Rally cars are required to have catalytic converters and they don't run a 360 cubic inch motor at 9k rpm for 500 miles.

Bump!

Only a week and a half before things start to get underway. The entry list is starting to look pretty interesting. I was hoping that Ken Block would give his subie a rest and take out his MkII Escort but no dice (maybe some other race that isn't on RA's championship.) I appear to be the only Escort on the entry list. I hope that I can show Team VW a thing or two but I don't think that will happen.

For more information like the schedule, entry list and spectator guide go to: http://www.rally-america.com/events/2009/OFPR/

It doesn't cost anything to watch. Get a few people together to split gas to get you out there (I hear Escorts make pretty good milage), pack yourself a lunch, and gas to get you back. They might charge admission for the super special but the real racing is in the woods anyway.
