How hard would it be to swap a taurus SHO v8 into my 2nd gen parts car? I'm just curious, as my buddy's SHO just got rear ended by a '61 caddy driven by a druck driver, and now the SHO has been shortened a foot. He's debating what to do with it, so i didn't know if it would work.

I don't think the engine compartment is even big enough for the SHO engine and tranny to fit.

A local autobody guy told me there is a spot weld seem on the Taurus that makes it relatively easy to remove the back half of the car and replace it. If you aren't into that kind of work then you could get another Taurus and swap all the SHO stuff onto it. Of course, there is also the fact that the SHO V8's are a vary hard engine to come by and tend to experience catastrophic failure. That said, a running engine could fetch a hefty sum if your friend parted the car out.

the failure had to do with the gears on the cams. there is a fix that involves welding the cams at the point where they fail, then it's good to go. very good motor but you'd need to find a 5 speed tranny that bolts to it.

imo it is probably too wide to fit between the escort frame rails... but its worth a few mins with a tape measure just to make sure :)

Haha, it's a rot box, so I don't mind hacking the escort to make it fit. And he's decided to upgrade to a mustang gt. He said I could have the taurus for free, so I was just curious. I might try doing it in a year or two, don't have the money at this time. I was just wondering if the frame rails and suspension pieces would clear the motor. Also, where would I get axles to do this with? Both car's axle shafts are either to long or to short!

All I can say for axles is find a good fab shop that does axles. Your going to spend more on axles than you would on a used Taurus to swap the running gear into.

it can be done my 98 zx2 is riding with this exact engine you will have to widen the front severly but a wide body kit made mine look decent but be prepared to spend quite a bit of cash custom parts are a must

I've seen somwhere on the internet that someone had dropped the v-6 sho engine into an escort. I don't remember where I saw it or when but I'm guessing that swap is possible. Also the older sho engine has a lot more options for customization and the HP ratings were fairly close to their v-8 counterpart.

Definitely possible. It'll fit in an MX6, so therefor should fit in an Escort.

You can fit BP, FE3, KLZE in Escort, all of which will fit in MX6. So if the SHO V6 will fit in MX6, should also fit in Escort.

I'm talking about the V8 from the later SHO models.

And I did get the car that has the motor. But I just sold it a few weeks ago because I was offered a good chunk of cash for it, which I need to build my race car. So I won't be doing this swap.
