I know that everthing is done and I think the timing is top dead center and we did 2 revolutions by hand and it turned easy and everything went back to top dead center. So I think were good , but we won't know until I fire it up. Hopefully this weekend. Fingures crossed!!!!

Asa for the BP for the PONY swap, I need to still collect stuff.

When I was putting the head back in, the intake manifold grabbed the wire for the fan trigger sensor and ripped the wire out of the harness and same with the throttle body wire and harness. Also needs a lower rad hose(DRYROT), and a new battery.

As for the Pony's BP, it needs a tranny, axles, pulleys, alternator, starter,
wireharness and exhaust manifold.

Shipping probably would kill but, I do have a cast manifold. I have a manual trans that needs to be "re-built", FYI.

Stoked myself! As soon as I make brackets, she's going on the stand. Besides for installing a windage tray, I will leave bottom end alone unless there is a reason. This engine ran perfect when I plucked it from my parts car. Have to save every penny, want to get my Nova on the road in the spring as well. As of now, she's a rolling chassis and next weekend, the drivetrain and column goes in so I can get that baby home!

 Cool! What year nova?
Personally my dream car is a, I think, 65 nova. The one before they became muscle car looking.
That sounds like a cool build! You should put some pics up on here, i'm sure you'll get alot of guys drouling over it.

It's a '73. For now a built 283 and auto are going in it. Here it is 6 years ago, she has been completely in pieces for about 5 years. The price was right and I get to keep it in the family.

Picked up a K code VAF today.

Got to research for picks on how to do this Hybrid VAF.
Also picked up a new oil pan gasket, case of oil, new oil filter,
and my replacement wire harnesses today. WOOT!

Still have to get the drive shafts or front axles, and a new battery.

Well after what seems to be forever the car is together, all the wiring is hooked up, car tries to start but no startey!
checked wires, checked connections, new fuel,? Next option is maybe fuel pump, or fuel filter. When turn key to on position, I'm not hearing the pump kick on, so I'm thinking maybe the pump is bad or a animal got under the car and chewed the wire. I don't know gettinig frustrated.
Any thought or Ideas would be helpfull.
Pump was new 2.5 years ago and was working before the car died on me.
the injectors are new, fuel filter is old.
Could there be a bad fuse or something? Just trying to feel out all possibilities.

Are you trying with the stock U code VAF? Regardless of the VAF, in stock configuration, the VAF vane door has to open slightly for fuel relay switch contact. Check for pressure/pump noise while engine is cranked or the vane door is manually opened.

It's the stock VAF. When I turn the key to the on possition I'm not hearing the fuel pump come on at all. Checked the fuses and they seem ok, and looked underneith the car and in the door sills and all the wires seem ok.
I ordered a new fuel pump and filter and hope thats the issue.

Will keep updating when things start to progress.

Just turning the key on with a stock U code will not energize the pump. Move the vane door to touch contacts to engage the relay and energize the pump...

Ended up being a bad fuel pump.
Still haven't got it to start yet. did a compresion test and everything seems ok except that it seems as if the timing is slightly off, and the timing belt tensioner isn't pulling the belt as tightly as it did before.
I'm to the point now that I'm going to have to pay someone to get the timing corrected.

The timing was way off and I had the firing order messed up on the distributor.
But when all was said and done she started right up and sounds wonderful!
She's alive!!!!
