Is there a (cheap) code scanner for 92 scrt GT 5 spd (with 91 tracer 1.8 BP in it)? I don't have check engine light but I've got some minor idle issues, and I'm wondering about the O2 sensor. Actron has one for domestic escorts - doenst seem to cober 1.8s. The motor (which I've put 80,000 on since installing) waz out of 91 tracer w/automatic - I'm man5. I had to put induction system from original motor on it due to wiring harness differences.
OK?

IIRC any pre OBDII car can give you its codes if you go through a ritual of ignition key motions as instructed in the Haynes Manual. I did it on my 93 EGT, my 87 Topaz, my 86 Lancer, but not my 81 Tercel or the 82 626.
I did it on other peoples 80s Chryslers of all sorts, and a few others. Point is you can do it on yours. BTW some problems that generate a code don't activate the dummy light. I think on my EGT IIRC it involved using a 12 volt test light in the diagnostic port to flash numbers at you.
And yes there is a code reader for your car for about $40 CDN IIRC but it does no more that the procedure you can do yourself

Check all of the vacuum hoses. Mine looked like they all rand somewhere, but on closer inspection one was just hanging behind the engine. Fixed my idle issues up.

I dont think there will be any codes if there is no check engine light.

I don't know why you bring up GTX. He has the same car as me and so I told him what I did with mine and it works. I might be remembering wrong but I think I did get codes even if the light wasn't on. I think I remember the Haynes stsing something to that effect also.
