So recently my mom asks me if I want to switch cars with her. Her car is a Saturn SC2, and it's a bit faster than mine and handles pretty nice on those curvy 2 lane roads; I have smoked many a car in it and I am pretty fond of the thing, (for a saturn; anyways) but it has had all sorts of problems along the way, mostly with the interior and sunroof.

So I decide, maybe, if I can find another site like FEOA for car advice and just general community, I might switch. Maybe. And not permanently. Just for the summer months because her car has problems with overheating in the summer time, and it's better for it and gas mileage if it doesn't get driven too much.

So I've been looking at saturn forums, and I find one that looks like it's pretty good; pretty darn active, then I look at the topics. And just about every single person on there has had a major problem with their car that has cost them loads of money! I look at it; alternators, radiators, valve covers, you name it, someone, probably lots of people on the site, have had tons of problems with it! So I go back to my mom and lay it on her gently, tell her I'm not gonna switch cars with her. :p

Score one for the escorts. I haven't had a mechanical problem with my car yet. It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'!!! :p

Ha ha ha ha................i could have told you that before you went to the saturn forum. There are some of the saturns that quite possibly might make it 5-10 years without a problem but the most of them aren't. They were cars i think directed toward the younger females. It seems like almost every girl i know drives a saturn. I've been told those cars wern't put together real good. I'm not gonna slam something untill i try it(unless it's rice) so i won't say too much more

Well, I really like the way my mom's car handles and it is pretty peppy. But have you ever owned a Fiat, or driven one? Or maybe like an MG? It's kind of like that. It reminds me of an old european sports car. They're loads of fun to drive, but when you put that key in the slot and twist it, you never know quite what's going to happen. The electrical systems in the thing are pure SH** I'm sorry to say; the power window motors have both burned out more than once, for each of them, and the sunroof has broken 7 times!!! 7 times!! My dad got pissed at it and removed the engine so it won't open now. It leaked for a while until we caulked it. Anyways, back to the MG's and Fiat's; Fiat's had loads of electrical problems and my dad said that his was either in the shop or he had to work on it's ignition about every 2-3 weeks but it was never very expensive stuff and the car really attracted the ladies. ;) Mg's, well, they're MG's, and to tell the truth I have never seen one that's not rusty. I love both MG's and Fiat's and I like my mom's saturn but it has neither the history or prestige of old european sports cars, so I deem it not worth the trouble. 'scorts forever! :p

Ya know every experience I have had with Saturn was good. The ones we sold from the car lot while I was there had no more problems than anything else, and in most cases less. Not to mention that a year and a half ago I finally sold the 93 saturn that my family bought new and we all used it as our main car at some time or another. The thing had just a touch over 270,000 miles on it when we got rid of it. not once did I take the valve cover off. It did get an alternator and a water pump - both late in it's life. Then again, I do beleive that the regular maintainance had a lot to do with that.

From what I can tell Saturn "quality" is very inconstant. Most of the ones I personally know are pretty good though. My boss just got rid of one that had over 250,000 miles on it.

Personally, I don't like the body styling of any Saturn and I suspect that Escorts are cheaper and easier to fix.
