I don't know alot about the escort but I know everything about my scort.
what I need help on is this. I want my scort to be RWD (1G) 1.9L 90'
I was thinking about useing a ranger rear end but no idea how to get it in, also I would prefer to use my 9" rear end from my bronco. I think it would look cool with wide axles anyway.
also do they sell a kit or something easier, I have lot's of time lot's of tools, but not alot of money also if somehow, someway if I put 500hp plus under the hood do I need to reinforce the frame?
last thing is maybe putting SHO taurus motor in the rear cab area and blocking it off from the rest of the cab with steel plate. anyone have any idea's please let me know.

yeah I have done a lot of looking into this.. I was actually thinking of using a rotary 20B motor. There are an amazing amount of things that would fit without much trouble on the 2nd gen scorts.

anyway... you would really have to consider a whole tube chassis or at least some major strengthening. Also the firewall might have to be set back a bit. But obviously if you've got the tools it would be a cool project.

my idea was to take the frame and chassis from a chevy vega, and chop everything off the bottom of my 1g, suspension, gas tank, engine tranny ect. and smoothing out the floor and welding it to the vega frame, and support it with a roll cage. the vega frame itself can support a BB 454 with not too much problem, as long as its mounted right. the only problems i can see is the wheel base length, im not sure what the vega length and width are so i cant really get a for sure idea on this concept...

well, thats my idea, have fun with it...

If your going to do it, you might as well do it right spend the time and retrofit a readend from some thing that has IRS.. like last gen t-birds, 240SXs, older supras (just cause they will be cheaper then the newer ones). might as well make the thing handle and ride decent if your going to take all the time to do this. You are for sure going to have to strengthen the chassis some how either a full tube chassis or some kinda subframe connection bars and crossmembers seup(basically frame rails). I have to admit it would be pretty cool to see someone do this but seriously do you really want to spend that much time and money on 1g escort....

if you need to come here and ask if its possible then im sorry to say its not gonna get done. not that it cant be done, but nobody here has done anything like that because 1. its a waste of time/money 2. it will be an impractical and apotentially deadly car 3. If you knew what you were getting yourself into with a swap like that you would just buy a murker.

but im all for you doing it, just saying a got $5 that says this post goes nowhere.

and if you actually wanted to do it, get a RWD motor and trans(2.3lT is pretty common to find). Make custom mounts, cut out alot of your firewall, cut a tunnel down the middle of the tunnel for the driveshaft, remove your gas tank and entire rear everything, hope you know how to put a rear end and suspension from a car that has absolutely nothing in common with yours together and hope it doesnt fall apart goin 100MPH. I would find a smashed murker for like $300 and go from there. Also, you will need to get the motor to run, so everything like ECu and harness and all sensors from the donor car must go into yours or get a stand alone EMS to handle it.
