Is a 2nd gen GT more prone to rust than an LX of the same year? I don't see too many GT's on the road anymore. The body on my 92 wagon is in great shape except for door dings.

The GT and LXs have the same body with minor cosmetic differences.

They both rust just the same, in the same places, at the same rate (if in the same environment).

there would be nothing that would make one rust more than the other... both are assembled with the same metal/screws/bolts/welds... and both have the same primer and paint so basically it is impossible for 2 escorts (in same conditions its whole life as mentioned before) for one to have a worse rust problem than the other. that is of course also decided on how its driven... if people take it mudding like that srt4 video your prone to devlope rust where the mud and cakes all moist and wet over rock chips and stuff... but if just street vehicles no they cannot have a worse rust problem...

also i thought the thread was going to be more a "should i get a rusty gt or keep my lx" kinda thing, which in that case if you like to drive fast and hard yes and if you dont care for speeding tickets but you want a decient car no.

This thread is long enough but I have to reply because I just about fell off my chair laughing when I read it.

I'd bet my left arm that my 91 LX has more rust on it than any other Escort still on the road. And that's after I've already replaced the doors, hood and hatch. She's one ugly mutha.

I think a lot of the Escorts up to at least 93 were known to have poor paint.

Yeah, almost all of the clearcoat on my red 91 GT is gone, but I saw a newer LX and the hood was still perfect. I don't really have terrible rust compared to what you're saying, just the typical quarter panel rust.

maryland's the shizzle for cars. I got my 3000GT there and it's absolutely spotless. No rust anywhere... and it's 10 years old too. I picked it up in chestertown. Chezturrtown in da hizzouze!! *raises roof*

Shizzle is my word.

How much are you selling that 3000GT shiz for?

rusty gt = better than any other 2nd or 3rd gen.
With the exception of the wagons, you may just be right..

Oh, but then there's the 5 doors, those are pimp too. :D

Seriously though, the LTS probably has the GT beat on coolness.

I'm 6'3. I need the larger doors. The GT is lighter. Nobody sits in my backseat anyways. Logical choice? Yes.
