does anyone know a good way to run the main amp power wire from the battery into the passenger cabin? a good wiring diagram for aftermarket head unit/amp/woofer hookup would also be helpful.

Just either poke your power wire through a factory grommet, or drull a hole big enough, put a grommet in and run it through there

there is a nice size hole (power wire size depending) under the brake booster. i think it will clear 2ga. i don't remember drilling a hole in my old car.

I ran mine through the main wiring harness hole in the firewall.

Neuman is also correct on the brake booster area.

On a 2nd gen. Escort there is a hole in the firewall above the brake booster, just above where the throttle cable emerges - which I think is for the cruise control - which my car doesnt have. And if yours is an automatic, there is a metal plate where the clutch master cylinder is mounted to the firewall. You would have to remove the battery to get to it, as its fairly low.
